About The Position

Memphis-Shelby County Schools seeks a certified part-time tutor to provide professional instruction supporting students’ academic, social, physical, and skills development. The position helps students prepare to become successful citizens and workers through individualized tutoring, instructional reinforcement, and collaboration with classroom teachers.

The tutor creates plans for each student, sets individual goals, suggests enrichment activities for home and school, and assesses and documents progress. The role also supports academic exercises, classroom activities, daily routines, and learning activities, with tutoring provided to individuals and small groups as needed.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
• Valid Tennessee professional teacher’s license.
• Proof of education, training, and/or experience is required.

Responsibilities

• Generate tutoring plans for each student, detailing individual goals and suggested enrichment activities for home and school; assess and document student progress.
• Develop and assist students with academic exercises and class activities, working with small groups and individuals as necessary.
• Compile, prepare, and organize instructional materials and the classroom for instruction and other learning activities.
• Reinforce knowledge and skills taught by the classroom teacher.
• Assist the teacher with academic instruction and instruction in daily routines, skills, and concepts as needed.
• Provide instructional support and reinforcement to students identified as needing tutoring services.
• Use effective instructional practices, behavior management strategies, assessment techniques, and directed teaching methods.
• Collect and compile statistical data for accountability and program development as needed.
• Collect, organize, and complete information needed for reports and evaluations.
• Communicate and collaborate effectively with the teacher.
