About The Position

This role provides support to students in a before/after school program at Curley K-8 for the 26-27 school year. Responsibilities include assisting students with academic tasks, implementing learning activities, coordinating with external partners, maintaining classroom equipment and records, monitoring student behavior, performing clerical duties, and promoting good habits for student development. The position is part-time and temporary, with hours determined by the program.

Requirements

  • Current authorization to work in the United States - Candidates must have such authorization by their first day of employment

Nice To Haves

  • Current BPS employee, or familiarity with BPS
  • Associate's Degree or higher, especially a degree in Education.
  • Experience teaching in urban schools.
  • Fluency in one of BPS' official languages: Spanish, Creole (Cape Verdean), Creole (Haitian), Chinese, Vietnamese, Portuguese, & Somali.

Responsibilities

  • Assists students, individually or in small groups, with lesson assignments for the purpose of presenting and/or reinforcing learning concepts and reaching their academic goals and potential.
  • Attends meetings with site After School Lead, after school staff meetings and training opportunities for the purpose of reviewing and coordinating after school activities and learning new instructional techniques.
  • Implements instructional learning activities for the purpose of improving students' academic, physical and social skills.
  • Coordinates with and supports external partners providing before/after school programming.
  • Maintains classroom equipment, work area, students’ files/records for the purpose of ensuring availability of items and/or providing reliable information.
  • Monitors individual and/or groups of students in a variety of settings for the purpose of enforcing school rules and procedures regarding student behavior and participation and/or providing a safe, respectful and positive multicultural learning environment.
  • Performs record-keeping and clerical functions for the purpose of providing necessary records/materials and helping students succeed.
  • Promotes good habits for the purpose of improving the quality of students outcome and encouraging student development.
  • Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.
  • Other duties as assigned.
