About The Position

Moment Energy is seeking a Battery Technician to join their team and help ensure smooth, efficient, and high-quality builds of Moment’s Battery Energy Storage Systems. The company is focused on repurposing large-format batteries into advanced battery energy storage systems that deliver real-world impact, aiming to create a world where clean power is abundant, affordable, and uninterrupted. Requirements

  • Hands-on experience in a mechanical and electrical assembly manufacturing environment
  • Proficiency in assembly, wiring, crimping, and the operation of power hand tools (drills, impact drivers, angle grinders, etc.).
  • Demonstrated ability in soldering, inspection, and rework of Surface Mount Technology (SMT) and through-hole Printed Circuit Boards (PCBs).
  • A strong aptitude for data analysis and experience developing simple scripts or tools for data processing (e.g., Python) and report generation.
  • Understanding of workplace safety, particularly in high-voltage and manufacturing environments.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs with or without lifting aids and stand for long periods of time.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and collaboration abilities, with a willingness to support R&D activities and process improvements.

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred experience in battery testing, grading, or handling.
  • Familiarity with quality management systems (e.g., ISO 9001).
  • Knowledge of LEAN manufacturing processes is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Successful and precise assembly of battery energy storage systems, including the construction of both electrical and mechanical sub-assemblies for final integration.
  • Install rivets, nuts, and various fasteners into systems designated for product integration.
  • Operate power hand tools such as drills, impact drivers, and angle grinders for meticulous mechanical builds.
  • Perform assembly, wiring, and crimping of harnesses, and conduct soldering, inspection, and rework of Surface Mount Technology (SMT) and through-hole components on Printed Circuit Boards (PCBs).
  • Conduct thorough quality inspections, part assessments, and actively engage in process improvements on the production floor.
  • Run Battery Grading Stations (BGS) to characterize second-life lithium-ion batteries to UL1974.
  • Maintain and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for grading, testing, and ensuring safe operation of battery systems.
  • Develop and create scripts for battery grading data analysis and report generation.
  • Maintain battery testing equipment and create Bill of Materials (BOMs) for new equipment purchases and upgrades.
  • Support Research and Development (R&D) activities by facilitating the construction of R&D test systems, test bench development, prototype builds, assembling, testing, and refining prototypes.
  • Create reports and documentation to support battery testing, R&D activities, and equipment maintenance.
