About The Position

As part of the Battery Engineering group, the Electrical Engineer designs, develops, and tests battery monitoring units and battery management units (BMUs) for next-generation consumer electronic products. The role focuses on detailed board-level design and takes BMUs from concept through mass production, pushing technology to maximize performance while minimizing volume. The engineer collaborates with product design, system EE, cell engineering, firmware, algorithms, suppliers, and manufacturing partners to deliver products on time and within budget. Responsibilities include circuit design and analysis, component selection, custom-part development, prototype validation, design documentation, and production test planning.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a relevant field of study.
  • Experience in analog and/or power electronics design.
  • Experience in electronic circuit design or development with mixed-signal systems, or relevant experience.
  • Experience in one or more of the following areas: power electronics, battery management (fuel gauge and charger), portable consumer electronics, medical electronics, or automotive electronics.
  • Detail-oriented approach and commitment to product excellence.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience presenting data to cross-functional teams and/or management.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a relevant field of study and 10+ years of relevant industry experience.
  • Experience with high-volume manufacturing.
  • Knowledge of one or more scripting languages or environments (Python, Shell, Unix, MATLAB, etc.) for test automation and data analysis.
  • Understanding of the silicon manufacturing process and how semiconductor devices and associated parasitic subcircuits are created.

Responsibilities

  • Design BMUs from concept through mass production, focusing on detailed board-level design.
  • Push technology boundaries to maximize performance and minimize volume.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional partners to ensure products are developed on time and within budget.
  • Investigate problems or issues and prepare reports.
  • Develop schematics and bills of materials (BOMs) to satisfy design requirements.
  • Develop PCB layout guidelines and guide layout engineers to meet physical and electrical requirements.
  • Specify custom parts and PCBs for BMUs.
  • Analyze designs using simulation tools and calculations to verify conformance with requirements.
  • Conduct design validation on prototypes and implement the design.
  • Conduct design reviews, incorporate team feedback, and release design documents for builds.
  • Specify production test plans and limits, and work with contract manufacturing partners to implement them.
  • Work with suppliers to develop custom parts as needed.
  • Design test methodologies to verify battery management unit designs.
  • Select electronic parts and integrated circuits to meet performance targets.
