About The Position

The Barista is an ambassador for Wonderstate Coffee and provides customers with a café experience that brings the company’s core values to life. Baristas prepare and serve high-quality coffee and products, maintain a clean workspace, and provide excellent hospitality. The role works closely with the Bar Lead and Cafe Manager to achieve café goals. This is an onsite position in Madison, Wisconsin, available as part-time or full-time work, with schedules that vary each week. The position is tipped; starting wages are $11.00 per hour for part-time and $13.00 per hour for full-time, with estimated tips averaging $4–$5 per hour. Employees working 20 or more hours per week are eligible for benefits. No supervisory responsibilities are assigned. Duties may change or new duties may be assigned at any time, with or without notice.

Previous barista experience is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

Prepare high-quality coffee drinks that reflect Wonderstate’s commitment to excellence.
Provide each customer with a positive experience centered on joy and wonder.
Contribute to a positive team environment by giving and receiving feedback respectfully and expressing gratitude.
Operate the espresso machine and other brew equipment with care.
Handle cash and operate the cash register.
Continue learning and developing barista and teamwork skills.
Maintain a clean workspace and other areas of the café.
Monitor quality and report issues to the Bar Lead or Cafe Manager.
Follow Food Safe Serve and state sanitation guidelines.
Monitor beverage and bar ingredients that need to be ordered and communicate needs promptly to the Bar Lead.
Communicate the flow of service to team members.
Arrive on time and dressed appropriately for work.

Participate in the quarterly deep-clean process at least once a year.
Participate in special events or catering on occasion.
Attend monthly staff meetings.
