About The Position

The Barista prepares and sells drinks by following recipes and preparation techniques, and generates revenue by attracting new customers. The role involves welcoming customers, identifying their coffee interests and needs, explaining menu options and coffee equipment, and preparing drinks such as espresso, espresso lungo, café latte, and cappuccino. The Barista also maintains inventories and equipment, follows sanitation and safety standards, works to improve the quality and appearance of the coffee bar, and develops job knowledge through educational opportunities and industry publications. The position involves working in a casino and hotel environment, with exposure to secondhand smoke, excessive noise, and the stress of serving customers in a fast-paced, high-pressure setting. The employee must be able to stand for an entire shift, move throughout casino and hotel areas, work weekends and holidays, and lift, push, or pull up to 50 pounds.

Requirements

At least 1 year of experience in the coffee service industry.
Ability to communicate clearly and concisely with customers and team members.
Superior customer service skills, including the ability to manage difficult customer situations and respond promptly to customer needs and requests.
Ability to communicate effectively in English.
Ability to stand for an entire shift and move throughout casino and hotel areas.
Ability to work weekends and holidays, as well as flexible shifts and/or unusual hours.
Ability to lift, push, or pull up to 50 pounds.
Ability to work in an environment with secondhand smoke, excessive noise, and the stress of serving customers in a fast-paced, high-pressure setting.
Ability to perform repetitive finger and wrist motions, including keyboard data entry, and prolonged viewing of data on a computer monitor.

Responsibilities

Welcome customers and determine their coffee interests and needs.
Explain the coffee drink menu and answer customer questions.
Explain differences in coffee beans and preparation machines, and demonstrate how brewing equipment operates.
Prepare and sell coffee drinks according to prescribed recipes and techniques.
Attract new customers and identify opportunities for new or expanded services and products.
Replenish coffee beans; stock brewing equipment; and maintain supplies, pastries, and cookies for the coffee bar.
Keep equipment operating by following instructions, troubleshooting breakdowns, maintaining supplies, performing preventive maintenance, and calling for repairs.
Maintain a safe and healthy work environment by following organization standards and sanitation regulations.
Study and improve processes, implement changes, and maintain and improve the appearance of the store and coffee bar.
Update job knowledge through educational opportunities, industry publications, and professional networks.
Take ownership of requests and explore opportunities to add value to the coffee shop.
