About The Position
As a Barista at Hy-Vee, you will provide friendly customer service while preparing beverages, keeping the coffee shop stocked and clean, and ensuring customers receive what they need. The role suits someone who enjoys connecting with people, working in a fast-paced environment, and taking pride in quality work. No prior experience is required; training and support are provided. The position is performed in a store coffee shop environment, with pressure to meet deadlines and manage multiple priorities. Safety training is provided. Employment is contingent upon successfully completing a pre-employment drug screen.
Requirements
- Follow written and verbal instructions.
- Use basic math skills for simple addition, subtraction, counting, and recording.
- Communicate clearly and helpfully with customers and teammates.
- Stay organized and keep up with the pace of a busy coffee shop environment.
- Frequently stand and walk throughout a shift in sales, food service, or delivery areas.
- Perform repetitive standing, walking, reaching, and bending related to order fulfillment, point-of-sale transactions, and cleaning and sanitation duties.
Nice To Haves
- Up to six months of similar or related work experience is preferred.
Responsibilities
- Greet customers warmly and provide outstanding customer service, including learning customers’ names and making each visit positive.
- Take customer orders at the counter and over the phone, help customers find products, and answer questions.
- Prepare and replenish coffee shop products as needed.
- Monitor product freshness and appearance, and follow or develop production lists to meet daily needs.
- Handle food safely and keep the work area clean, neat, and up to department standards.
- Check in products, put them away, and review invoices as needed.
- Operate the department register and process payments where applicable.
- Remove trash promptly and maintain a tidy department.
- Work with teammates to provide a smooth, positive customer experience.
- Follow Hy-Vee’s dress code, hygiene standards, and company policies.
- Assist in other store areas and take on special projects as needed.
