About The Position

Stumptown Baristas help ensure coffee quality from bean to cup while contributing to café success through exceptional hospitality and high-quality beverages and products. They are expected to grow their coffee knowledge and develop a passion for the craft, modeling continuous growth, best-in-class hospitality, and quality in all things. The role is performed at a café and involves serving the public in a potentially noisy environment. The position is seasonal.

Requirements

• Demonstrated passion and enthusiasm for coffee and a desire to educate others about it.
• Ability to provide exceptional hospitality in a personal and professional manner.
• Strong attention to detail and respect for cleanliness and sanitation.
• Health department license or certification as required by state or local requirements.
• Strong communication skills with employees and customers from diverse backgrounds.
• Openness to feedback and a commitment to continuous improvement.
• Ability to multitask with ease.
• Reliability and availability for early mornings, nights, and weekends.
• Ability to stand for shifts and move about the café.
• Ability to perform repetitive hand, wrist, and forearm motions to operate espresso machinery.
• Ability to detect and perceive the smell of coffee.
• Ability to communicate frequently with customers.
• Ability to lift up to 5 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds occasionally.

Responsibilities

• Prepare espresso beverages to Stumptown’s quality standards.
• Provide exceptional customer service and proactively engage with customers to understand and meet their needs.
• Develop knowledge of coffees, teas, foods, merchandise, and promotions to support sales and informed customer conversations.
• Maintain a clean and organized environment throughout the store.
• Remain open to change and share ideas for improving the store.
• Taste coffee, tea, and specialty beverages regularly to maintain familiarity with products and quality standards.
• Accurately process transactions in the POS system and reconcile the till.
• Reflect on performance, seek feedback, and work to improve personal strengths and development areas.
• Follow sustainability procedures to minimize waste, conserve energy, and limit water usage, and share ideas for improving processes.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
