About The Position

The Barista I provides excellent customer service and educates customers about premium organic coffees and teas. The role requires a positive, professional attitude and may include additional duties as needed to support café operations and encourage customers to return. The position serves customers at Pony Express/Heritage Express/Sweetwater Café. It is part-time, with hours that vary Monday through Saturday. No travel is expected. The position has no supervisory responsibilities. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Requirements

Strong oral and written communication skills.
Ability to stand for long periods.
Ability to push and pull up to 40 pounds.
Reliable transportation and a working phone.
Must be at least 18 years of age.
Must maintain a valid driver’s license and be insurable under the company’s insurance provider/program.

Nice To Haves

Some experience making espresso drinks is helpful; training may be provided to the right person.
One year of prior retail store experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

Greet customers with a friendly smile.
Initiate conversations and build rapport by learning customers’ names and favorite drinks and food items.
Promote customer satisfaction and respond appropriately to customer concerns.
Accurately process transactions through the POS and count back change.
Answer the café telephone using a friendly, professional greeting.
Sell and serve baked goods and miscellaneous food items.
Assist with opening and/or closing the café.
Assist with baking, food preparation, and catering.
Prepare top-quality espresso shots for hot and cold beverages.
Communicate and collaborate with coworkers and management to solve problems and improve quality and service.
Work with coworkers and management to implement changes effectively.
Contribute to a positive work environment.
