About The Position

As the Banquet Houseman at M Social Sunnyvale, you will play an essential role in supporting the successful execution of meetings, conferences, weddings, social events, and other functions. You will assist with room setups, event breakdowns, furniture movement, equipment organization, and maintaining clean and guest-ready event spaces. This role is ideal for someone who is dependable, physically active, detail-oriented, and enjoys working as part of a team in a fast-paced hospitality environment. You will help create seamless and memorable events by ensuring banquet spaces are properly set, maintained, and reset according to event specifications. Your work behind the scenes allows the banquet service team to focus on delivering exceptional experiences to our guests.

  • Ability to read and follow setup diagrams and written instructions
  • Food Handler Card required or ability to obtain upon hire, as applicable
  • Ability to safely operate basic banquet equipment after appropriate training
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the shift
  • Frequently lift and carry up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to push and pull banquet carts, tables, chairs, and equipment
  • Ability to bend, reach, stoop, kneel, and climb stairs as needed
  • Ability to safely move furniture and equipment throughout the property
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment for extended periods
  • Ability to work both indoors and outdoors as required by event operations
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Equivalent combination of education and relevant experience will be considered

Nice To Haves

  • Previous Banquet Houseman, Banquet Server, Houseman, or similar experience
  • Previous hotel or event venue experience preferred
  • Experience setting up meetings, conferences, weddings, and social events
  • Familiarity with banquet equipment and different room configurations
  • Bilingual abilities are a plus

Responsibilities

  • Set up banquet rooms according to event diagrams, specifications, and standards
  • Arrange tables, chairs, staging, dance floors, risers, and other event equipment
  • Assist with setting up meeting rooms, reception areas, and event spaces
  • Break down and reset event spaces promptly following functions
  • Move furniture and equipment safely and efficiently
  • Ensure rooms are properly arranged before guests arrive
  • Make adjustments to room setups as directed by banquet management
  • Support banquet servers and supervisors during events
  • Assist with delivering and removing tables, chairs, equipment, and supplies
  • Replenish water stations, service areas, and other banquet supplies as needed
  • Assist with buffet and beverage station setup and breakdown
  • Respond promptly to requests from banquet leadership
  • Help ensure event spaces remain clean, organized, and guest-ready throughout the function
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of banquet rooms, storage areas, hallways, and service areas
  • Remove trash, debris, and used equipment from event spaces
  • Clean and organize banquet equipment after use
  • Return tables, chairs, equipment, and supplies to designated storage areas
  • Maintain proper organization of banquet storage rooms
  • Report damaged or missing equipment to management
  • Maintain a professional, friendly, and helpful presence around guests
  • Respond to guest requests appropriately or direct them to the appropriate team member
  • Help maintain a clean, comfortable, and welcoming event environment
  • Be attentive to the needs of guests while working throughout event spaces
  • Represent the M Social brand through professionalism and a positive attitude
  • Work closely with Banquet, Food & Beverage, Culinary, Engineering, and other hotel departments
  • Communicate effectively with banquet supervisors regarding event requirements and operational needs
  • Support the team during high-volume events and multiple-function days
  • Assist coworkers wherever needed to ensure successful event execution
  • Maintain a positive, respectful, and team-focused work environment
  • Follow all hotel safety policies and procedures
  • Use proper lifting and equipment-handling techniques
  • Follow food safety and sanitation procedures when assisting with food and beverage areas
  • Keep walkways, exits, and event spaces free of hazards
  • Report spills, damaged equipment, safety hazards, or maintenance concerns promptly
  • Follow proper procedures when operating or moving banquet equipment
