About The Position

The Hyatt Regency Denver Tech Center is seeking a Banquet Captain to join their Banquets department. This 4-Star Full Service hotel has 451 rooms and 30,000 square feet of conference space. The role involves supervising banquet staff, overseeing functions, and ensuring safe and efficient operations. The hotel operates 24/7, requiring flexibility in shifts and hours. The position offers flexible work hours, with availability needed for day shifts, night shifts, weekends, and holidays.

Requirements

  • Two years of hotel banquet food/beverage service experience.
  • Hold a current Food Handler Card (or be willing to obtain at our cost).
  • Able to process paperwork.
  • Basic knowledge of food and beverage preparations, service standards, guest relations, and etiquette.
  • Knowledge of appropriate table settings and service ware.
  • Knowledge of various equipment and setup styles used in meeting rooms (e.g., different table types).
  • Ability to understand verbal English sufficient to understand job requests from supervisors and guests.
  • Ability to transport up to 30 lbs. through a crowded room on a continuous basis throughout the shift.
  • Lifting Thirty (30) pounds maximum.
  • Ability to grasp, lift and/or carry, or otherwise move or push goods on a hand cart/truck weighing a maximum of 100 lbs.
  • Frequent twisting, bending, stooping, reaching, standing, walking, talking, hearing, seeing, and smiling.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise banquet staff in the completion of assigned functions and set-up.
  • Oversee the service and break-down of functions in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Check server and horseperson BEOs to ensure accuracy.
  • Verify room set-up against BEO directions and ensure public areas are neat and clean.
  • Liaise with group representatives and explain contact procedures.
  • Communicate BEO changes to the catering office and affected departments.
  • Coordinate with banquet staff on set-ups, changes, and time schedules for all functions.
  • Verify staffing levels for upcoming functions and adjust schedules as needed.
  • Operate as a banquet server when required, including setup, guest service, and breakdown.
  • Inspect banquet areas post-function to ensure proper equipment return and cleanliness.
  • Obtain client signatures on banquet checks and recap/submit checks to Night Audit.
  • Coach, counsel, and administer corrective/disciplinary actions to associates as needed.
  • Possess knowledge of menus, including ingredients and preparation methods, for all functions served.
  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures.
  • Follow safety and security procedures and rules.
  • Know fire prevention and emergency procedures.
  • Utilize protective equipment.
  • Report unsafe conditions, accidents, injuries, near-misses, property damage, or loss to supervisor.
  • Provide a safe work environment.
  • Maintain a neat, clean, and well-groomed appearance.
  • Perform any related duties as requested by the supervisor.
  • Assist other Banquet Personnel when needed.
