About The Position

The Bakery Lead supports the Bakery Department Manager in delivering an exceptional guest experience and helping the department operate effectively. The role assists with leading, teaching, and coaching team members; maintains a welcoming guest experience and an appealing department; resolves problems; and serves as acting manager when needed. The position reports to the Bakery Department Manager and emphasizes leadership, hospitality, excellence, and teamwork.

The role requires a flexible schedule that may include days, evenings, weekends, and holidays. Work involves extended periods standing or walking, repetitive hand and arm movements, bending and reaching, handling loads, and exposure to extreme temperatures. Team members must use required personal protective equipment and wear an approved hat, hair net, and/or beard guard.

Requirements

• At least 1 year of progressive management experience in supermarkets, retail, restaurants, hotels, or general business.
• Strong leadership skills, including the ability to motivate and develop high-performing teams.
• Ability to deliver an exceptional guest experience while achieving performance goals.
• Excellent communication, problem-solving, and conflict-resolution skills.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
• Basic proficiency with POS systems, scheduling tools, and Microsoft Office Suite.
• Must be at least 21 years old.
• Ability to perform repetitive hand and arm movements, grasp, bend, and reach.
• Ability to lift, push, or pull up to 50 pounds alone.
• Ability to stand or walk for extended periods, including up to 4 hours without a break or as required by law.
• Ability to use knives, ladders, stepstools, box cutters, pallet jacks, and other equipment.
• Must wear an approved hat, hair net, and/or beard guard, and personal protective equipment.

Nice To Haves

• Associate’s degree in business, retail management, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• Experience in grocery, fresh food retail, hospitality, or a high-volume specialty retail environment.
• Knowledge of inventory management systems and financial reporting.
• Bilingual skills.

Responsibilities

• Help monitor labor schedules to meet productivity and budget goals.
• Assist in maintaining accurate inventory levels, minimizing shrink, and supporting ordering processes.
• Provide guidance to team members and act as a resource in the manager’s absence.
• Model and coach “Impeccable Hospitality” by engaging guests and creating positive experiences.
• Help implement merchandising strategies and promotional plans to maximize sales and profitability.
• Assist in analyzing department financial and performance metrics.
• Collaborate with fellow department leaders to support overall store success.
• Use available technology to perform job tasks.
• Teach and coach team members and support their development.
• Step in as acting manager when needed.
