About The Position

The Bakery/Deli Clerk creates an outstanding customer experience through exceptional service and helps maintain a safe, clean environment that encourages customers to return. The role assists the department manager in reaching sales and profit goals and monitors quality assurance standards. The clerk supports the Customer 1st strategy, encourages excellent service, and demonstrates the company’s values of respect, honesty, integrity, diversity, inclusion, and safety. The clerk prepares, packages, labels, stocks, and inventories bakery and deli products and ingredients; serves customer orders with fresh products and appropriate portions; maintains product quality and freshness; and follows food safety requirements, cooking instructions, and temperature logs. The role uses bakery and kitchen equipment according to company guidelines, provides product information and recommendations, and helps customers locate items. The clerk also monitors inventory and equipment, reports discrepancies and safety concerns, and cooperates with associates and customers in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

Prepare items according to customer requests using proper bakery equipment.
Offer product samples and inform customers about bakery and deli specials.
Provide fresh products in the correct portion sizes, or as close as possible to the amount ordered, to prevent shrink.
Recommend deli and bakery products to customers and answer questions about products sold in the department and throughout the store.
Use bakery and kitchen equipment according to company guidelines, including refrigerators, freezers, slicers, ovens, stoves, computerized scales, fryers, steamers, and Robot Coupe equipment.
Prepare foods according to temperature logs and cooking instructions.
Measure, prepare, and mix ingredients according to recipes using kitchen utensils and equipment.
Prepare, package, label, and inventory ingredients and merchandise.
Check product quality and freshness, review sell-by dates, and take appropriate action.
Label, stock, and inventory department merchandise; monitor inventory and stocking conditions and note discrepancies.
Report product ordering or shipping discrepancies to the department manager.
Maintain knowledge of the store layout and locate products for customers.
Stay current with present, future, seasonal, and special advertisements; maintain knowledge of department products and respond to questions or make suggestions.
Ensure proper temperatures in cases and coolers and maintain temperature logs.
Promote trust and respect among associates and help create a welcoming environment for customers.
Follow food safety regulations and guidelines.
Comply with safety procedures, identify unsafe conditions, and notify store management.
Inspect equipment for preventive maintenance and notify the appropriate department or store manager of items needing repair.
Notify management of customer or employee accidents.
Work cooperatively in a fast-paced and sometimes stressful environment and manage conflict reasonably and cooperatively.
Handle customer and business information honestly and with integrity; follow directions and seek assistance when needed to resolve issues.
Provide support and assistance through direct interaction with minors, individuals with special needs, and older adults.
