About The Position

The Bakery/Deli Clerk creates an outstanding customer experience through exceptional service and helps maintain a safe, clean environment that encourages customers to return. The role assists the department manager with sales and profit goals and monitors quality assurance standards. The clerk supports the Customer 1st strategy and demonstrates the company's core values of respect, honesty, integrity, diversity, inclusion, and safety. The position prepares bakery and deli items to customer specifications, offers samples, informs customers about specials, recommends products, and provides fresh products in appropriate portions. It involves operating and maintaining department equipment, preparing and packaging food, checking freshness and dates, managing labels and inventory, and following food safety procedures and temperature logs. The clerk also helps customers locate and choose products, reports inventory or shipping discrepancies, and works cooperatively with associates and management in a fast-paced environment.

Requirements

Responsibilities

Prepare bakery and deli items according to customer requests using appropriate equipment.
Offer product samples and inform customers about bakery or deli specials.
Provide fresh products in the correct or closest possible portion size to prevent shrink.
Recommend bakery and deli items to help customers find products they want and need.
Operate bakery and kitchen equipment according to company guidelines.
Prepare foods according to temperature logs and cooking instructions.
Measure, prepare, and mix ingredients according to recipes using kitchen utensils and equipment.
Prepare, package, label, and inventory ingredients and merchandise.
Check product quality and freshness, review sell-by dates, and take appropriate action.
Label, stock, and inventory department merchandise and report ordering or shipping discrepancies to the department manager.
Maintain awareness of inventory and stocking conditions and note discrepancies.
Maintain proper temperatures in cases and coolers and maintain temperature logs.
Help customers locate products, answer questions, and stay current on products, seasonal items, and special ads.
Promote trust and respect among associates and contribute to a welcoming customer environment.
Follow food safety regulations, safety procedures, and company guidelines.
Identify unsafe conditions and notify store management; inspect equipment and report repair needs.
Notify management of customer or employee accidents.
Work cooperatively in a fast-paced and sometimes stressful environment and manage conflict constructively.
Handle customer and business information with honesty and integrity, follow directions, and seek assistance when needed.
Provide support and assistance through direct interaction with minors, individuals with special needs, and older adults.
