About The Position

The Bakery Clerk is responsible for assisting in the bakery department, ensuring adherence to all health and safety regulations, and maintaining product quality and freshness. This role involves receiving and checking merchandise, rotating stock, preparing and packaging bakery items, decorating cakes, and performing general housekeeping duties within the department. The clerk will also manage inventory levels, handle customer orders, and ensure all products are accurately priced and presented.

Requirements

  • Must be able to carry/lift up to 50lbs.
  • Must be able to push/pull up to 200lbs.
  • Must be able to stand for up to 6-8 hours in an 8-hour work day.
  • Hand use: Single grasping, fine manipulation, pushing and pulling.
  • Work requires bending, twisting, squatting and reaching.
  • Ability to operate and use knives, scales, wrappers, compactors, garbage disposals, pallet jacks, and hand trucks as needed.
  • Uses knowledge of scales and weight measures to accurately weigh and label products.
  • Ability to vertically transfer tray up to 5 lbs., from 7” to 64” for up to 8 hours.
  • Ability to vertically/horizontally transfer items up to 40 lbs., from 5” to 36”, for a distance up to 36 feet for up to 8 hours without mechanical assistance.
  • Ability to work in wet and dry conditions.
  • Exposure to temperatures: <32 degrees Fahrenheit (freezing), 32-40 degrees Fahrenheit (refrigerators), >90 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • May require use of ladder.
  • Adhere to all safety, health, and Weights and Measures regulations.
  • Achieve and maintain a Food Handlers permit.
  • Safety Risk Factors include: Twisting, slippery floor surfaces, cluttered floor surfaces, toxic exposure, nuisance dust, fumes, hot equipment surfaces, sprays, hazardous cleaning solutions, operation of department equipment.
  • Repetitive Action: Process merchandise, prepare and wrap bakery related product, proof dough products, bake breads, cookies and pies, stirring caramels and jams, stock and rotate display case, unload deliveries, operate and clean all bakery equipment, tools, and workspace.

Responsibilities

  • Adhere to all local, state, and federal health and civil code regulations.
  • Assist in receiving and unloading of merchandise, verifying vendor invoices, and checking product quality, count, and condition.
  • Rotate bakery ingredients and merchandise according to Company Policy and product code dates, using oldest products first.
  • Control freshness by coding all product and pulling out-of-code merchandise daily.
  • Handle damaged and spoiled products according to Company Policy and assist in controlling the level of damaged goods.
  • Take stock to storage or shelf areas.
  • Answer phones and take special orders.
  • Reduce out-of-code merchandise daily for quick sale to maintain department's image for the highest quality and freshness.
  • Wrap, package, and price all product accurately and legibly in accordance with established Bakery Procedures and Guidelines.
  • Decorate cakes using precise measurements and scales as set by Bakery Procedures.
  • Decorate cakes to customer specifications and prepare them on time for customer pick up.
  • Perform general housekeeping in the department; clean and sanitize work area.
  • Keep manager aware of low inventory conditions or excessive spoilage problems.
