Bakery Clerk
About The Position
The Bakery Clerk helps keep Hy-Vee’s bakery department running smoothly by preparing and replenishing products, assisting customers at the bakery counter, and contributing to a welcoming customer experience. The role involves reviewing daily orders and monitoring product freshness, appearance, and supply levels; preparing, finishing, and replenishing baked goods; and maintaining clean, organized, sanitary work areas. The clerk may also receive and put away products, review invoices, operate the department register, remove trash, assist in other store areas, and take on special projects. Training and support are provided, and prior experience is not required.
Requirements
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Basic math skills, including simple addition, subtraction, counting, and recording.
- Ability to communicate clearly and helpfully with customers and teammates.
- Ability to stay organized and keep up with the pace of a busy bakery environment.
- Ability to frequently stand and walk throughout a shift.
- Ability to perform repetitive standing, walking, reaching, and bending.
- Less than a high school diploma or equivalent is accepted; prior experience is not required.

- Up to six months of similar or related work experience.
Responsibilities
- Greet customers warmly and provide outstanding customer service in the bakery.
- Help customers find products, reach items, carry heavy purchases, and place orders at the bakery counter.
- Review daily orders and monitor product freshness, appearance, and supply levels.
- Prepare, finish, and replenish baked goods, including pulling products from the cooler or freezer for preparation.
- Follow sanitation procedures and keep the work area clean and organized.
- Check in and put away products and review invoices as needed.
- Operate the department register to process payments where applicable.
- Remove trash promptly and maintain a tidy department.
- Work with teammates to provide a smooth, positive customer experience.
- Follow Hy-Vee’s dress code, hygiene standards, and company policies.
- Assist in other store areas and take on special projects as needed.
