Backend Software Engineer - Data Connectors

Palantir Technologies•New York, NY

About The Position

The Connectivity team builds software that connects Palantir’s platform to customer systems, including databases, enterprise applications, cloud storage, web services, and streaming systems. These connectors enable customers to bring data into Foundry and write back to operational systems, supporting applications and AI workflows built with Foundry and AIP. The Backend Software Engineer will build and maintain Foundry’s connector suite and the shared infrastructure behind it. The role spans connector implementations, developer SDKs, and systems that build, test, distribute, and run connectivity software. It involves evolving a large, established codebase, migrating bespoke integrations to shared platform capabilities, designing SDKs that enable integrations to be developed independently, and safely retiring older implementations. The engineer will also develop observability and diagnostic tools, own improvements from design through production, and use operational experience to strengthen the shared platform. The team uses Java and Python, along with technologies including Kafka, Kubernetes, Flink, Debezium, Iceberg, Gradle, GitHub, and shared job orchestration, streaming, serverless execution, and compute deployment platforms.

Requirements

  • At least 4 years of professional software engineering experience developing external system connectors, with depth in areas such as batch and streaming data ingestion systems, third-party integration development, or monorepo and asset distribution frameworks. Merely operating on top of these technologies does not qualify.
  • Deep expertise in Gradle, including developing custom plugins, managing multi-project builds, and optimizing build performance.
  • Demonstrated ability to diagnose complex reliability and performance problems and improve systems through measured, incremental changes.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work effectively across teams, incorporate feedback, and maintain a high bar for quality.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain Foundry connectors, improving performance and extending support for imports, exports, change data capture, interactive queries, and writeback.
  • Improve the infrastructure and tooling used to build, test, package, and distribute connectors and shared libraries across the connector monorepo.
  • Design and maintain connectivity SDKs for internal teams and end users, including APIs, documentation, testing utilities, and development workflows.
  • Collaborate with product teams to integrate connector execution with job orchestration, streaming, and serverless platforms.
  • Lead incremental migrations to shared infrastructure, manage compatibility, and retire older implementations while preserving customer workflows.
  • Develop reusable security frameworks and tooling for secure connector development and execution.
  • Debug production issues and performance problems, turning recurring support problems into durable fixes, automated tests, and improved observability.
  • Establish shared testing frameworks, compatibility checks, and release practices for a reliable and maintainable connector portfolio.
  • Help prepare and maintain Palantir connectivity software for open-source use, including its APIs, packaging, documentation, and contributor experience.

Benefits

  • Restricted Stock units, sign-on bonus, and other potential future incentives may be included in total compensation.
  • Health and well-being offerings; offerings may vary by region.
  • Hybrid work options may be available for many teams.
