Backend Software Engineer - Data Connectors

Palantir Technologies•New York, NY
•$135,000 - $200,000

About The Position

Palantir’s Connectivity team builds software that connects its platform to customer systems. Connectors integrate databases, enterprise applications, cloud storage, web services, and streaming systems, bringing data into Foundry and enabling writeback to operational systems. These connections support customer applications and AI workflows. The Backend Software Engineer will build and maintain Foundry’s connector suite and the shared infrastructure behind it. The role spans connector implementations, developer SDKs, and the systems that build, test, distribute, and run connectivity software. A central focus is evolving and scaling an established codebase: moving integrations onto shared platform capabilities, enabling independent integration development through SDKs, and safely retiring older implementations. The engineer will also build observability and diagnostic tools and own improvements from design through production.

Requirements

  • At least 4 years of professional software engineering experience developing external system connectors, with depth in areas such as batch and streaming data ingestion, third-party integrations, or monorepo and asset distribution frameworks. Merely operating on top of these technologies does not qualify.
  • Deep expertise in Gradle, including custom plugin development, multi-project build management, and build performance optimization.
  • Demonstrated ability to diagnose complex reliability and performance problems and improve systems through measured, incremental changes.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work effectively across teams, incorporate feedback, and maintain a high bar for quality.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain Foundry connectors, improving performance and extending support for imports, exports, change data capture, interactive queries, and writeback.
  • Improve infrastructure and tooling for building, testing, packaging, and distributing connectors and shared libraries, including tooling across the connector monorepo.
  • Design and maintain connectivity SDKs for internal teams and end users, including clear APIs, documentation, testing utilities, and development workflows.
  • Collaborate with product teams to integrate connector execution with job orchestration, streaming, and serverless platforms.
  • Lead incremental migrations to shared infrastructure, manage compatibility, and retire older implementations while preserving customer workflows.
  • Develop reusable security frameworks and tooling for secure connector development and execution.
  • Debug production issues and performance problems, turning recurring support problems into durable fixes, automated tests, and improved observability.
  • Establish shared testing frameworks, compatibility checks, and release practices for a reliable, maintainable connector portfolio.
  • Help prepare and maintain Palantir connectivity software for open-source use, including APIs, packaging, documentation, and contributor experience.
