About The Position

The Cloud Services team is seeking a Software Engineer to design, develop, and evolve the Enterprise File System (EFS) platform. EFS enables rapid packaging, deployment, and execution of distributed applications at scale across global data centers. The primary focus of this role is the migration of a legacy, Perl-based distributed application deployed on virtual hosts to a modern Python-based, microservices architecture. This includes designing and implementing API-driven services and enabling scalable, containerized deployments. This role will partner with cloud services engineering, operations teams, and subject matter experts to deliver modern distributed solutions aligned with enterprise architecture and security standards. Key responsibilities include developing high-quality software that meets functional, non-functional, and compliance requirements; implementing well-defined APIs; writing unit and integration tests; and ensuring solutions integrate cleanly into the broader platform with robust, well-tested interfaces. The candidate will be expected to follow enterprise development standards and adhere to all security policies from development through deployment.

Requirements

  • Strong Python expertise with demonstrated experience building production systems
  • Experience designing and developing RESTful APIs using the OpenAPI 3.0 specification
  • Experience developing large-scale, back-end applications and microservices
  • Ability to understand, develop, and maintain complex distributed systems
  • Experience with Agile development processes and tools, such as Jira, Confluence, Git, and Bitbucket
  • Experience with CI/CD practices and tools such as Jenkins and Ansible
  • Experience with Git-based source control and modern development workflows
  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Experience developing across multiple architectural layers (data, application, business)
  • Experience creating technical documentation and training materials
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to engage both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with geographically distributed teams
  • Experience with agentic software development tools; GitHub Copilot experience preferred

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Kubernetes and/or OpenShift
  • Experience contributing to or operating containerized microservices environments
  • Familiarity with NFS and distributed file system concepts
  • Experience with Perl (especially for legacy system migration)
  • Experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux environments
  • Experience with NetApp Network Attached Storage devices
  • Experience analyzing and reporting on operational data with Oracle SQL and Splunk
  • Experience developing automation using Ansible
