Backend / API Engineer, Money Movement Network

Backend Engineers at Stripe play a crucial role in designing, building, and maintaining APIs and services that enable the movement and storage of money efficiently and reliably. They are responsible for independently leading large technical projects, aligning technical decisions with Stripe's strategic initiatives, and collaborating with engineers across the company to leverage existing infrastructure or build bespoke solutions. This role requires a balance between tactical and strategic considerations, and offers the opportunity to contribute to the global economy while advancing one's career.

Independently scope and lead large technical projects, laying the groundwork for early-stage products to iteratively evolve and scale

Design, build, maintain, and evolve APIs and services

Work with our partners to launch new markets, payment methods, and capabilities

Align our technical decisions with Stripe’s broad strategic initiatives, while also advocating for needs specific to emerging new businesses

Work with engineers across the company to understand when existing infrastructure can be leveraged vs. when building a bespoke solution is prudent

Develop and execute against both short- and long-term roadmaps. Make effective tradeoffs that consider business priorities, user experience, and a sustainable technical foundation

• Strong technical background with 3+ years of experience designing and engineering large-scale systems
