About The Position
The Utilities Operator is responsible for the proper performance and housekeeping of refinery boilers, turbines, air compressors, the water plant, lime plant, injection water pumps, and associated materials and equipment. The position operates and monitors equipment, conducts chemical testing and treatment adjustments, performs routine maintenance and troubleshooting, handles materials and chemical inventory, and maintains operating records. The role is based in Chalmette, Louisiana.
Requirements
- Two years of industrial experience working with high-pressure steam turbines or industrial boilers, or a Class II Engineers license for steam turbines or boilers.
- Mechanical aptitude and ability to use tools for routine maintenance and troubleshooting.
- Ability to perform tests, comprehend instrumentation, take corrective action, and maintain records.
- Flexibility to work various shifts, including Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays, and overtime as needed; weekend shifts may be mandated based on business needs.
Nice To Haves
- High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred.
- Class I license from the state of Louisiana on water treatment strongly preferred.
Responsibilities
- Start up, shut down, operate, and monitor boilers, turbines, air compressors, the water plant, lime plant, injection water pumps, and associated equipment.
- Perform chemical testing for boilers, turbines, the water plant, and lime plant, and make necessary chemical injection adjustments.
- Perform routine and preventative maintenance and troubleshoot boilers, turbines, the water plant, the lime plant, and associated equipment.
- Prepare chemicals for water treatment, maintain chemical inventory, and request chemicals as needed.
- Handle materials, operate a forklift, accept chemical shipments, and unload and position materials as necessary.
- Enter daily information in the logbook and complete required reports.
- Participate in major and minor equipment overhauls involving boilers, turbines, the water plant, and the lime plant.
- Write work orders for required equipment repairs and coordinate minor maintenance tasks with maintenance personnel.
- Maintain required sanitation levels.
