About The Position

The Compliance Manager is a key risk management role that works closely with business partners and other members of Compliance to ensure business processes and initiatives comply with applicable consumer laws and regulations. This role is responsible for delivering quality results, providing compliance guidance to first-line partners as a subject matter expert, and executing and/or participating in risk management activities. The role provides compliance support for processes within Credit & Capital Management and Technology & Operations, Customer Solutions including Disputes, Servicing, Collections and Operations Support functions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree, or in lieu of a degree, 7+ years of financial services and/or governance experience.
  • 3+ years of Compliance, Risk, Audit, or governance/issue remediation experience in the financial services industry, with demonstrated ownership of risk routines (e.g., RCSA, issues/actions, monitoring, exam/surveillance support, control design/creation).
  • Knowledge of dispute processes (billing, fraud, payments, missing statements, and/or credit bureau) preferred.
  • Ability and flexibility to travel for business as required

Responsibilities

  • Work with the business to ensure a complete understanding of compliance requirements as they relate to business processes.
  • Perform risk coverage activities, including risk reviews and assessments, to identify opportunities to reduce thematic risk; conduct targeted compliance reviews and continuous monitoring activities.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for consumer protection laws and regulations (including Truth in Lending, the Fair Credit Reporting Act, and UDAAP) and provide ongoing oversight through control enhancements, issue management, communications, and process execution for supported processes.
  • Support business partners by providing expert advice and influencing changes to processes, procedures, and controls to mitigate compliance risk.
  • Provide effective challenge in risk assessments, including assessing inherent risk and control effectiveness for various Synchrony L3 processes.
  • Lead and coordinate risk routines for the team, including RCSA execution, control documentation, and issue/action plan tracking.
  • Help the business embed effective tools, systems, and controls to analyze and monitor regulatory risks; serve as a resource on controls and compliance management documentation.
  • Analyze and report on key regulatory and litigation developments and their impact on Synchrony; communicate results to business partners and senior management.
  • Review compliance monitoring results and periodically validate that monitoring processes and methods are reliable.
  • Ensure significant risks are promptly escalated to the appropriate level.
  • Perform other duties, processes, and/or special projects as assigned.
