About The Position

Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas is a 875-bed, full-service hospital serving the Dallas community since 1966, specializing in cancer care, cardiology, neurosciences, women's services, and emergency medicine. It features a Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), a Comprehensive Stroke Center, and a Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence. The hospital is also accredited as a Center of Excellence in Robotic Surgery by the Surgical Review Corporation (SRC) for its Women's Robotic Surgery program. Texas Health Dallas is recognized as a Joint Commission certified Comprehensive Stroke Center, Level I Trauma Center, and Comprehensive Heart Attack Center, and is a designated Magnet hospital. The AVP Associate Chief Medical Officer will provide administrative oversight and assistance with the hospital's medical staff, physician recruitment, hospital operations, and clinical programs in collaboration with the Chief Quality Medical Officer (CQMO). This role involves developing and advancing strategic goals, providing leadership to the Medical Staff Office and Medical Staff, assisting with credentialing and privileging, managing medical students and residents, selecting and supporting Medical Directors, and ensuring regulatory readiness for surveys. The position also facilitates relationships between hospital administration and the medical staff, supports physician recruitment and clinical program development, and assists with communication on matters of supply chain and resource utilization. Additionally, the role involves collaboration with medical staff committees, supporting medical staff governance, and participating in policy development and revision. Other activities include performing requested administrative tasks and supporting hospital performance improvement initiatives.

Requirements

M.D. or D.O. required.
5 years experience in private practice management and/or hospital administration required.
1 year medical staff leadership required.
Texas Medical License required upon hire.
Knowledge of industry standards JCAHO, Medicare, OSHA, Organizational management, regulatory standards for affected area of responsibility.
Knowledge of continuous improvement, change management, marketing, financial analysis and planning and emergency preparedness.
Track record of cultivating and maintaining strong working relationships with all levels of clinical and administrative managers within the hospital and community leaders.
Ability to solve problems, think outside-the-box, and be resourceful.
Must be result-oriented, a quick learner and self-starter.

Nice To Haves

Master's Degree MBA, MHA or equivalent training preferred.
Experience in Graduate Medical Education preferred.
Previous CMO, ACMO or medical director experience preferred.

Responsibilities

Provide administrative oversight and assistance with hospital's medical staff, physician recruitment, hospital operations and clinical programs in collaboration with CQMO.
Work with the members of the Executive Team at THD and system leadership within THR to develop and advance the strategic goals of the Hospital.
Provide oversight and leadership to the director of Medical Staff Office and the Medical Staff.
Assist medical staff credentialing specialists, elected officers and the Chair of Credentials Committee to coordinate medical staff credentialing including the review of credentials, delineation of clinical privileges, development of privileges, and developing appropriate continuing medical education programs.
Assist the Medical Staff Office in the management of visiting medical students, Residents, Fellows, and observers.
Work with the CQMO to select and support the Medical Directors at the Hospital to ensure their appointments are advancing the hospital’s clinical and strategic goals.
Participate in yearly evaluation of the performance of Medical Directors and collaborate with the CQMO to set annual performance incentive measures.
Identify clinical areas where a Medical Directorship is necessary due to strategic goals or regulatory requirements or where a Medical Directorship is no longer necessary.
Attend meetings of the QPC when requested.
Assist CQMO with supporting the Quality department to ensure regulatory readiness for Joint Commission surveys as well as any other regulatory surveys.
Work with the quality department and medical staff leadership to conduct robust peer review.
Support the Quality Department and Medical Staff Leadership in Peer Review and in the development of appropriate OPPE, FPPE, rule, rate and review indicators.
When requested, participate in RCAs and reviews of clinical cases with quality concerns.
Support Utilization efficient and effective throughput in the on-going monitoring of physician performance with patient care activities.
Facilitate the relationship between Hospital Administration and Medical staff.
Providing leadership to the Medical Staff to assist in the creation of flexible physician alignment strategies that recognize and continually communicate the importance of the relationship between the hospital and the medical staff physicians.
Actively acknowledge and assist in responding to the needs and concerns of the Hospital’s diverse medical staff.
Work closely with Hospital senior leadership to develop and expand relationships with referring physicians.
Participate in the recruitment and development of Medical Staff leaders.
Work with Executive and Medical Staff Leadership to develop clinical programs, plan resource allocation for the implementation of clinical programs, and participate in the oversight of quality and safety related to all hospital clinical programs.
Assist the Medical Staff in actively engaging in and understanding the strategic goals of the hospital as well as the fiscal, operational, capital, quality, contracting, staffing, and credentialing challenges of clinical program development and maintenance.
Support the CQMO in communication with Medical Staff on matters related to supply chain, product utilization, and hospital resource utilization to ensure THD is aligned with the established goals of THR while also providing quality medical care.
Support effective patient throughput, utilization management, and compliant documentation.
Work collaboratively with the Chairs of all Medical Staff Committees as an ex-oficio, non-voting member of all medical staff committees.
Assist the medical staff officers, Medical Executive Committee, Medical staff committees, and Department Chairs in carrying out their functions.
Support Medical Staff leadership to improve medical staff functions and governance.
Assist Medical Staff leadership in the oversight of the conduct of Medical Staff members privileged at the Hospital in accordance with Hospital policies, medical staff bylaws, rules, and regulations.
Participate in the development or revision of hospital policies and procedures relevant to medical staff and medical staff affairs.
Work with committees and chairs and medical directors to ascertain physician needs with respect to clinical programs, clinical care, educational programs, and research projects.
Provide clinical expertise in efforts to advance or align clinical policies at THD and within the THR system.
Support Medical Staff Leadership to ensure appropriate dialogue about the strategic initiatives of the Medical Staff and the Hospital.
Facilitate dialogue with respect to clinical excellence, operational challenges, market dynamics, and the potential for expanded relationships between the Hospital and the medical staff.
Perform such other administrative and/or non-administrative activities as Hospital may reasonably request from time to time.
Support hospital performance improvement initiatives related to key performance indicators and other hospital priorities.
