As an AVP, Application Owner you'll have accountability to increase the value and/or reduce the cost of production, applications through strategic, tactical and operational management. You'll lead a team of technology professionals responsible for timely, high quality code delivery within estimates and ensuring application viability (service level management, capacity & availability management, configuration management, incident & problem management, change management, continuity & service management, financial management, architecture management, release planning). You’ll provide thought leadership to guide Application Evolution, Application Portfolio Management, Application Roadmap development and for implementing and maturing Nationwide's Technology Delivery Model fix for a line of business.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate studies in Business Administration, Communications, Strategic Planning, Computer Science or related field.
  • 15 years related Technology experience including applications management.
  • Minimum of seven years in management, senior management level preferred.
  • Five years project management experience required.
  • Proven knowledge of technology applications.
  • Expert level in innovative thinking, problem solving and decision making.
  • Expert relationship and negotiation skills.
  • Effective level of political, organizational and interpersonal savvy.
  • Knowledge of project management concepts and techniques.
  • Thorough understanding of business analysis, and business case development techniques.
  • Knowledge of architecture strategies and purposes.
  • Thorough understanding of people management, budgeting, financial management.
  • Strategic agility.

Nice To Haves

  • Graduate degree as well as Project Management certification preferred.
  • Insurance industry experience a plus.
  • Other criteria, including leadership skills, competencies and experiences may take precedence.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees the Application Lifecycle Management for customer–facing applications; Service Level Management, Capacity & Resource Management, Configuration Management, Incident & Problem Management, Change Management, Continuity & Risk Management, Financial and Architecture Management.
  • Collaborates with Architecture and Software Delivery Leaders to formulate, recommend and implement application development strategies.
  • Ensures execution of established development methodologies and plans to accomplish business objectives for existing and new technology.
  • Oversee strategic projects that develop and deliver applications and solutions for technology initiatives using sourcing strategies which ensure quality delivery consistent with strategic objectives.
  • Integrates best practices, policies, standards and procedures ensuring effective portfolio management, requirements management, testing, engineering and technical education services and documentation.
  • Ensures business needs are addressed via direct management and/or collaboration throughout Technology leadership to provide options and recommendations for strategic solutions, prepare and present the business case and associated Return on Investment, ensuring that the value to the business is well articulated and understood by the business leadership, initiate, prioritize, and deploy strategic initiatives and solution enhancements, ensure systems issues are resolved effectively and efficiently.
  • Ensure that business relationship and strategy development processes and procedures for Technology are developed and properly adhered to (driving effectiveness and efficiency) consistent with corporate and Technology strategic goals.
  • Leads a team of Technology associates which includes but is not limited to hiring, training, supervising and promoting.
  • May perform other responsibilities as assigned.
