Avionics Engineer (Early Career)

Rendezvous Robotics•Golden, CO
•$80,000 - $110,000

About The Position

Rendezvous Robotics is hiring an early-career Avionics Engineer to design electronics for modular spacecraft components that rendezvous, dock, and latch together. The company is a small team based in Golden, Colorado, working toward a flight demonstration and its first operational systems. The role is intended for electrical and computer engineers graduating in 2027 or candidates with two years or less of relevant professional experience; candidates graduating in 2027 would start in summer 2027, while those already working may start sooner. Spacecraft experience is not required, and the company will teach space-design practices. The engineer will contribute to digital, power, and mixed-signal circuit-board designs across the spacecraft, taking ownership in areas aligned with their strengths and vehicle needs. Work spans schematic capture, PCB layout, fabrication and assembly, hardware bring-up and troubleshooting, test fixtures and harnesses, test scripts, collaboration with firmware and software engineers, and integration and environmental testing as hardware progresses toward flight.

Requirements

  • BS or MS in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or a closely related field, completed by summer 2027.
  • Two years or less of relevant professional experience; internships and co-ops do not count toward this limit.
  • Solid grounding in circuits and analog and digital electronics.
  • Designed at least one PCB, from schematic through a working assembled board, for a class, club, or personal project.
  • Comfort using an oscilloscope, multimeter, and bench power supply.
  • Ability to read a datasheet and identify information relevant to a design.

Nice To Haves

  • Leadership in an engineering student organization such as Formula SAE, a rocketry club, a CubeSat or satellite team, a robotics team, or Solar Car, especially ownership of a subsystem through competition or flight.
  • Hardware-design internship or co-op experience.
  • Experience with KiCad or Altium.
  • Exposure to power electronics such as regulators, battery systems, or motor drivers, or to high-speed digital interfaces such as USB or Ethernet.
  • Enough embedded C or Python experience to bring up and test one's own boards.

Responsibilities

  • Learn to design electronics for space, including considerations for radiation, thermal vacuum, and derating.
  • Design digital, power, and mixed-signal boards across the spacecraft, matched to individual strengths and vehicle needs.
  • Perform schematic capture and PCB layout, review designs with senior engineers, and carry them through fabrication and assembly.
  • Bring up hardware on the bench, including first power-on, troubleshooting, repair, and documenting lessons learned.
  • Develop test fixtures, cable harnesses, and scripts to exercise hardware.
  • Work day to day with firmware and software engineers who build on the boards.
  • Support integration and environmental testing as hardware moves toward flight.

Benefits

  • Stock options may be available as long-term incentives.
  • Comprehensive medical coverage.
  • Vision coverage.
  • Dental coverage.
  • Short- and long-term disability insurance.
  • Life insurance.
  • Paid parental leave.
  • Accrual of 3 weeks of paid vacation.
  • 10 or more paid holidays per year.
