About The Position

STRUCTURAL TECHNOLOGIES is seeking a motivated early-career Structural Engineer for its assessment and repair engineering division in Salt Lake City, Utah. This is an in-office position with project-related field work and travel. The engineer will contribute throughout the investigate–design–build process, from field condition assessments and forensic investigations through repair design and construction support, primarily for industrial and power generation clients. The role involves evaluating distressed structures, investigating failure mechanisms and root causes, considering repair versus replacement, and designing practical repairs for critical infrastructure. Working with experienced mentors and construction teams, the engineer will develop solutions intended to be constructible, durable, and safe in live operating facilities, and will gain hands-on exposure across engineering and construction disciplines.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil or structural engineering and experience performing structural engineering work.
  • For candidates who are not licensed, completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering exam is required.
  • Sound understanding of structural behavior, load paths, analysis, and concrete and steel engineering fundamentals.
  • Ability to use relevant analysis and design software, such as SAP2000, RISA, or STAAD.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, Revit, or other drafting/BIM software, and ability to read construction drawings.
  • Clear communication, careful documentation, and organization.
  • Willingness to ask questions, accept feedback, and collaborate.
  • Ability to travel and work in the field locally and outside the Salt Lake City area.
  • Ability to meet access requirements for assigned secure facilities and work safely in industrial and other challenging environments.

Nice To Haves

  • Professional Engineer license, or ability to obtain a PE license within 12 months of hire.
  • Master’s degree or other advanced degree relevant to structural engineering.
  • Experience with forensic investigations, condition assessments, structural repair, or strengthening of existing structures.
  • Experience supporting industrial facilities, construction activities, or structural repair projects.

Responsibilities

  • Review records, assist with investigation planning and testing, and document deterioration, distress, dimensions, and site constraints.
  • Help evaluate causes of structural distress and develop solutions to repair, restore, or modify existing structures.
  • Perform assigned analyses and calculations, evaluate design options, and prepare or coordinate drawings, specifications, and reports under senior engineering guidance.
  • Consider structural performance, durability, constructability, and facility constraints in repair and strengthening designs.
  • Help verify field conditions, prepare responses to technical questions and requests for information, and assist with submittals and construction observations.
  • Raise discrepancies and changed conditions with the responsible engineer and project team.
  • Participate in client discussions, site walks, and solution development under senior or team guidance.
  • Assist with scope descriptions, proposals, quantities, and engineering effort estimates alongside Sales, Estimating, and Operations.
  • Clarify requirements, document assumptions, methods, limitations, and conclusions, check work, and resolve review comments.
  • Follow applicable standards and obtain required documented review and approval before deliverables are released.
