About The Position

Woodland Jr. High is hiring college students to serve as paid tutors and role models for students in our AVID program. The AVID program supports students in grades 7th-12th who aspire to attend college and are currently taking advanced classes to become college-ready. AVID tutors should be excellent role models who are motivated, organized, and successful college students who believe that the AVID students will succeed, too. The tutors should represent balanced academic backgrounds, with some liberal arts majors and others science or mathematics majors. The tutors should be individuals who will work in a supportive manner with secondary students and will be able to understand the delicate position they will occupy; they are advocates of students, yet ultimately they are responsible to the teacher.

Requirements

• College students
• Motivated, organized, and successful college students
• Ability to understand the delicate position of an AVID tutor
• Balanced academic backgrounds (e.g., liberal arts, science, mathematics majors)

Responsibilities

• Serve as paid tutors and role models for students in the AVID program.
• Work in a supportive manner with secondary students.
• Act as advocates for students while being responsible to the teacher.
