About The Position

Fayetteville High is hiring college students who want to serve as paid tutors and role models for students in our AVID program. The AVID program supports students in grades 7th-12th that aspire to attend college and are currently taking advanced classes to become college ready. AVID tutors should be excellent role models who are motivated, organized, and successful college students who believe that the AVID students will succeed, too. The tutors should represent balanced academic backgrounds, some liberal arts majors, others science or mathematics majors. The tutors should be people who will work in a supportive manner with secondary students and will be able to understand the delicate position they will occupy; they are advocates of students, yet ultimately they are responsible to the teacher.

Requirements

• Must be a college student.
• Motivated, organized, and successful college student.
• Belief in the success of AVID students.
• Balanced academic background (liberal arts, science, or mathematics majors are welcome).
• Ability to understand the delicate position of an advocate responsible to a teacher.

Responsibilities

• Serve as paid tutors and role models for students in the AVID program.
• Support students in grades 7th-12th who aspire to attend college.
• Work in a supportive manner with secondary students.
• Act as advocates for students while being responsible to the teacher.
