About The Position

The Wisconsin Union, a central hub at the University of Wisconsin-Madison since 1907, aims to enrich the lives of its members and visitors. Serving as the campus's living room since 1928 with the opening of Memorial Union, the Wisconsin Union fosters connections among students, faculty, staff, members, and visitors through diverse cultural, social, and recreational events and experiences. This AV Technician position is based out of the Pyle Center, with potential work in other Union buildings like Memorial Union and Unions South. The role involves setting up, breaking down, connecting, and adjusting audio-visual equipment and software for various events, academic instruction, and meetings. It also includes performing basic equipment checks, providing technical support to clients, maintaining an organized workspace, and working effectively in both team and independent settings.

Requirements

• Must be currently enrolled in a college, university, or high school (at least 16).
• If school is in break period (summer, spring, winter), applicants must intend to enroll in courses the following semester.
• Standing, lifting (up to 50lbs), bending, crouching, working on ladders, hand dexterity and other similar physical activities.
• Lifting of 50-75 pound equipment regularly.

Nice To Haves

• Experience with basic AV technology, speakers, microphones, computers and cameras
• Customer/ guest services and event experience
• An interest in learning AV technology and event production is important and recognized.

Responsibilities

• Set up/ break down, connect and adjust audio visual equipment/ software in various spaces for events, academic instruction, or meetings according to established requirements and requests.
• Performs basic and routine equipment checks to ensure proper functionality.
• Provide technical support to clients.
• Follow equipment storage guidelines by maintaining a clean and organized workspace.
• Ability to work in both team and self-guided settings.
