About The Position

As an AV Support Technician, you help create an experience that makes our community say, "I love Fayetteville Public Library!" The AV Support Technician (EAVT) primarily provides professional audiovisual support for Fayetteville Public Library events, programs, and rentals. This role works with all departments to ensure that all library-owned equipment is prepared, operated, and removed safely, efficiently, and on schedule. In addition to AV equipment, the EAVT will take lead with set up and teardown of such equipment as tables, tablecloths, chairs, signage, and any other event rental items. The support technician should be familiar with all event safety and audio-visual industry standards set by ANSI/infoComm.

Requirements

  • High school or GED, plus 12 to 18 months related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum age to meet AOSH requirements for working near an automated conveyor and sorting system.
  • Intermediate computer and software skills including experience with Microsoft and Apple operating systems, Office Software, and Programming Languages.
  • Understanding basic networking concepts.
  • Must have ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment, including a telephone, printer, copier, scanner, fax machine, and hand-held radio.
  • Basic library skills include the ability to alphabetize a set of books or library materials by title or author, accurately file, and put a set of books or other library materials in alphanumeric order.
  • 1-2 years’ experience working with an AV production team or an events setup crew.

Responsibilities

  • Setup, test, run and strike event (IE table and chairs) and audio-visual equipment to ensure smooth operation of events.
  • Setup, operate and strike A/V gear, such as soundboard/mixer EQ, mics, speakers, fixed and portable run cameras and switcher for live streaming of library programs that are indoor and outdoor.
  • Ensure continued smooth operation and to anticipate issues before they become a show interruption. Be prepared to assist the client if technical issues arise.
  • Provide excellent customer service to patrons as well as other internal and external clients. Conduct yourself in a professional manner with internal staff and with external clients. Fulfill reasonable client requests in a timely, professional manner even if those requests are at the last minute.
  • Respond to AV support tickets and help desk calls. Document issues in ticket system.
  • Install new hardware and software as needed.
  • Assist in development of original digital content (videos, podcasts, etc.).
  • Display excellent time management skills, attention to detail, problem solving skills, strong organizational skills and the ability to work proactively to balance multiple tasks and prioritize work. Complete work at an appropriate pace with a sense of urgency.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of safety equipment and procedures. Carry out job responsibilities in a manner that minimizes the risk of injury to yourself, other staff, vendors, customers, and the Library.
  • Undergo annual refresher training on safety topics including but not limited to safely working on overhead lighting fixtures, working with power, laying cables and ergonomics trainings will be based on standards laid out by AVIXA, Event Safety Alliance (ESA), or another industry recognized standards organization. Communicate any safety concerns to Event management in a timely manner.
  • Maintain all equipment in like new condition.
  • Exhibit effective communication skills by responding in a timely manner to internal and external requests; and by keeping management apprised of progress on goals and projects.
  • Help orient new staff, ensuring a smooth acclimation to the library and our culture. Assist in Training new staff members.
  • Attend and participate in weekly Event and Facilities departmental meetings. Attend client meetings and site visits.
  • Represent your department on various library committees as assigned.
  • Assume personal responsibility for building maintenance and solving minor issues and problems.
  • Understand and follow Library policies and procedures for requesting and using sick leave and PTO.
  • Conduct special projects as assigned.
  • Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.
