About The Position

The AV Solutions Engineer owns audiovisual design for assigned projects, from early client conversations through commissioning and customer handoff. The role combines pre-sales support with hands-on engineering, translating creative concepts into buildable systems and raising feasibility concerns early. It includes designing system architecture and interactive integrations across sensors, show control, lighting, media, and audio; defining AV networks in coordination with IT; selecting equipment; and producing clear, accurate technical documentation. The engineer also reviews vendor and integrator submittals, coordinates AV drawings with architectural and MEP plans, participates in commissioning, and maintains accurate documentation and as-builts. The role is based with the Charlotte team, which works closely with teams in Europe. The company provides training in its methods and shares knowledge across the team, with a possible route to owning design sets for its most complex builds.

Requirements

• 5–10 or more years designing and commissioning AV systems, with real projects the candidate can discuss.
• Strong AV system design experience across audio, video, control, and interactive systems.
• Ability to create AV schematics, including block and wiring diagrams, in AutoCAD or similar, and produce reliable bills of materials quickly.
• Confident AV networking and AV-over-IP skills, including VLANs, QoS, multicast, Dante, AES67, and NDI.
• Hands-on commissioning experience across complex control, DSP, and video systems.
• Understanding of installation constraints, cable routes, power, and cooling, with a practical sense of what is buildable.
• Comfort with control code and understanding of how AV systems communicate with software; affinity for programming.
• Ability to explain technical intent clearly to creatives, vendors, IT, and client technical teams.
• Ability to own designs, investigate problems, remain structured and calm, give and receive feedback clearly, balance creative ambition with delivery realities, and remain flexible and continually learn.
• Passion for building immersive and creative spaces.

Nice To Haves

• AVIXA CTS-D (Certified Technology Specialist – Design).
• Experience with Crestron, Extron, or similar platforms.
• Familiarity with DMX lighting.
• Background in experience design, exhibitions, attractions, or themed spaces.
• Physical installation experience or construction knowledge in the pre-engineering phase.
• Experience with LED walls and large-format video; training is available for candidates without this experience.

Responsibilities

• Work with sales on technical pitch scope, client calls, early concepts, and budget estimates, ensuring proposed work is buildable.
• Own AV design for assigned projects, including system architecture, schematics, block diagrams, rack elevations, and bills of materials.
• Translate creative concepts into buildable designs and identify feasibility issues early, proposing alternatives where needed.
• Design the interactive layer across sensors, show control, lighting including DMX, media, and audio, including system behavior when components fail.
• Define AV network designs and coordinate with IT on VLANs, QoS, multicast, AV-over-IP, and security.
• Select appropriate equipment and produce accurate, current, clear bills of materials promptly.
• Review submittals, verify compatibility, and manage technical risk with vendors and integrators.
• Compare AV drawings with architectural and MEP drawings early and flag conflicts.
• Participate in commissioning to verify systems against specifications and maintain accurate documentation and as-builts.
• Raise technical concerns early in the design process.
• Share knowledge with other engineers to support team development.
