About The Position

Napleton Chevrolet Columbus is seeking an Automotive Sales Consultant to join their team. This role involves assisting customers in finding the right vehicle and guiding them through the entire sales process, from initial contact to handing over the keys. The position requires working leads, greeting walk-ins, demonstrating vehicles, presenting pricing and payment options, and following up with potential customers. The store is described as smaller, offering direct interaction with management and a comprehensive view of dealership operations, making it suitable for individuals aspiring to management roles. The customer base is diverse, ranging from local contractors and farmers to families from the nearby Madison metro area, requiring adaptability in sales approach.

Requirements

  • Strong communication skills and a genuine willingness to talk to strangers.
  • Self-motivation; ability to work independently without constant supervision.
  • Reliability and a professional appearance.
  • Basic computer and smartphone proficiency.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Availability to work a retail schedule, including Saturdays.
  • Ability to pass a background check and pre-employment screening.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Previous automotive sales experience.
  • Familiarity with trucks, trailers, farm equipment, or construction.
  • Commissioned sales, retail, restaurant, hospitality, or customer service background.
  • Local ties to Columbus, Columbia County, or the Madison-side communities.
  • Small business, commercial, or fleet sales experience.
  • Bilingual (Spanish is a significant advantage).
  • Comfort explaining EVs and home charging to skeptical customers.

Responsibilities

  • Greet and qualify walk-in traffic, understanding customer needs before vehicle demonstrations.
  • Respond promptly to internet leads and phone inquiries to secure appointments.
  • Conduct product demonstrations and test drives.
  • Present pricing, payment options, and trade-in values clearly and honestly.
  • Advocate for buying local by highlighting superior attention and service.
  • Ask for the sale, handle objections, and close deals.
  • Maintain consistent contact with unsold prospects to nurture potential sales.
  • Stay in touch with past customers for referrals, service, and repeat business.
  • Log all customer interactions in the CRM system.
  • Become an expert on the full Chevrolet lineup, including trucks, family vehicles, commercial options, and EVs.
  • Understand and explain technical aspects of vehicles, such as towing capacities, drivetrain options, and EV charging.
  • Complete GM manufacturer certification training.
  • Stay current on inventory and available incentives.
  • Coordinate with the finance team and management on deal structure.
  • Perform thorough vehicle deliveries, including setting up connected services and explaining features.
  • Follow up post-sale to ensure customer satisfaction and earn good survey scores.
  • Represent the store professionally within the community.
