The Automotive/Heavy Equipment Technician is an essential role, responsible for performing automotive maintenance and services for fleet vehicles, equipment, and apparatus servicing Gwinnett County. This position requires consistent, reliable attendance and may involve work during emergencies, inclement weather, holidays, or other circumstances when normal operations are disrupted. The Automotive/Heavy Equipment Technician may be assigned to light automotive, heavy truck/equipment, or fire apparatus. Assignment is subject to change according to business needs. The Light Automotive Technician will be responsible for preventive maintenance services, diagnosing and repairing of automobiles and light trucks, including drivability, suspension systems, brake systems, engine, and transmission. The Heavy Equipment Technician will be responsible for diagnosing and repairing commercial and diesel vehicles, heavy equipment, and machinery, including troubleshooting and repairing mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems, reading and understanding hydraulic and electrical schematics, troubleshooting and repairing diesel engines (Cat, Cummins, Detroit), and maintaining routine maintenance schedules on all heavy equipment. The Fire Apparatus Technician will be responsible for diagnosing and repairing fire apparatus, including troubleshooting and repairing mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems, reading and understanding hydraulic and electrical schematics, troubleshooting and repairing diesel engines (Cat, Cummins, Detroit), and maintaining routine maintenance schedules.
