About The Position

The Gear Centre Group, a leading provider of powertrain parts and service for the off highway, heavy truck and automotive industries, is currently recruiting a HET 2nd/3rd Year Apprentice for our Off Highway Division located in Surrey, BC. The Gear Centre Group is a leader in the remanufacturing, supply, and installation of drivetrain components used in commercial trucks, heavy equipment, and mobile machinery across Canada. We keep fleets and operators moving by delivering quality workmanship, dependable remanufactured components, and the technical expertise that industry counts on. As we continue to grow and invest in new technology, including our Automated product lines, we are looking for skilled technicians at both the apprentice and journeyman level to join our Red Deer Branch. Working in our Truck and Automotive Division, you will focus on the diagnosis, removal, and installation of automatic and manual transmissions, differentials, axle components, and hydraulic wet kit systems found in commercial trucks and heavy-duty equipment. Depending on your experience level, you will either work alongside experienced journeymen to build your trade skills or take the lead on complex diagnostic and repair work and help mentor others.

Requirements

  • Apprentice Mechanic registration or Red Seal Journeyman Heavy Duty Equipment Technician or Truck and Transport Mechanic certification
  • Minimum 2 years of experience on commercial trucks (for journeyman applicants)
  • Strong mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic troubleshooting skills
  • A positive attitude, strong work ethic, and willingness to grow with the company

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with transmission, differential, transfer case, or transit component rebuilding is a strong asset
  • Commercial vehicle inspection experience is considered an asset
  • Supervisory or shop leadership experience is an asset, particularly for candidates interested in a long-term path toward service department leadership

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose, remove, and reinstall automatic and manual transmissions, differentials, axles, transfer cases, and hydraulic wet kit systems
  • Support component remanufacturing of transmissions, torque converters, axles, and industrial gearboxes
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems
  • Perform failure analysis reporting and dyno testing
  • Read and interpret rebuild procedures and technical repair manuals
  • Work alongside our Automated product line equipment as part of a modern remanufacturing operation
