About The Position

This is a remote position for personnel transitioning out of the military through the SkillBridge program. The objective is to facilitate a smooth transition to a civilian career in Cybersecurity. The Automations Engineering Internship Program is designed to provide exposure to private sector business as well as a flexible schedule to accommodate out-processing. The internship will last for a minimum of 90 days. Candidates must live in or near Dallas, TX, or Anchorage, AK, or be willing to relocate if offered a permanent position. All candidates are required to pass a background check prior to beginning work and must be approved for the program by a commanding officer. We are looking for a motivated self-starter that is passionate about cybersecurity and has a strong desire to be an integral part of a dynamic team. The program offers interns business and technical exposure to core elements of the cybersecurity discipline, including automating compliance audits, responding to security events, integrating security technologies across tools and platforms, and developing secure infrastructure to strengthen security operations and compliance management capabilities. Each intern is expected to participate in industry-related activities and customer meetings as well as author three 1,000-word articles/blogs on cybersecurity-related topics.

Requirements

  • Currently serving in the United States military
  • Eligible for the SkillBridge program
  • Seeking an associate, bachelor, or master's degree in cybersecurity, computer engineering, or a related discipline
  • Exposure to core information security functions, including network and application vulnerability testing, role-based access control (RBAC), security information and event management, and/or computer incident management
  • Proficient in systems/security engineering and networking
  • At least two years of information technology experience
  • Exposure to three or more of the following security technologies: Debian or Fedora-based operating systems, Familiarity with Git, SDLC, CICD processes, Proficiency in one or more scripting languages such as Bash, PowerShell, etc., Network Engineering, to include routing, switching, and firewall fundamentals, Proficient in ingesting security and system logs from disparate sources and formats, such as SNMP, syslog, etc., Experience with managing and leveraging REST-based APIs
  • Four-year degree from an accredited college or university
  • Must pass a background check prior to beginning work
  • Must be approved for the program by a commanding officer
  • Desire and ability to learn quickly, a great attitude, and good work ethic
  • Must have a home office environment and sufficient Internet connectivity to enable remote work

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of Fortinet firewall technologies
  • Proficient in database technologies such as OpenSearch and SQL
  • Ansible, Terraform experience
  • N8n, shuffle experience
  • Power BI, Monday experience
  • Fundamental understanding of NIST SP 800-171, CMMC 2.0, or any other regulatory standards (HIPAA, SOX, PCI-DSS, etc)
  • Knowledge of OS Architecture
  • Certifications (CISSP, Security +, CEH, CISA, CISM, Fortinet NSE4, Microsoft) and any other cyber security related certification
  • Cyber incident response experience
  • Kubernetes (Rook, CephFS, and/or kustomize experience is a bonus)
  • Proficient in C and/or Python (M code experience is a big plus)
