About The Position

Join Qnity Electronics (formerly DuPont) at our Towanda, PA manufacturing site as an Automation & Process Control (A&PC) Engineer. In this role, you will ensure the reliability and safety of our automation systems, respond to plant issues, and lead improvements and capital projects across PLC/HMI/SCADA, instrumentation, and industrial networks. We are seeking a hands-on electrical engineer with strong industrial automation experience and a safety-first mindset.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical or Chemical engineering (or equivalent).
  • 5+ years supporting automation/control systems in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • 5+ years working with Bailey/ABB DCS or similar systems.
  • Practical PLC/HMI experience (e.g., Rockwell CompactLogix, FactoryTalk View SE) and industrial networks (Ethernet/IP, DeviceNet).
  • Strong instrumentation and process control fundamentals, including troubleshooting of pressure, level, flow, temperature, valves, and analyzers.
  • Familiarity with MCCs, drives/VSDs, and electrical safe-work practices.
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to collaborate with operations, maintenance, and contractors.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.

  • Experience with hazard/risk assessments, functional specifications, vendor management, FAT/SAT, and commissioning.

Responsibilities

  • Improve equipment uptime by diagnosing and permanently resolving automation faults.
  • Reduce operational risk through robust testing and Management of Change practices.
  • Lead upgrades that enhance safety, quality, yield, reliability, and productivity.
  • Support and learn process controls mechanical and chemical systems.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve PLC/HMI/SCADA and instrumentation issues to minimize downtime and quality impact.
  • Own control system reliability practices: backups, version control, testing, commissioning, and recovery.
  • Ensure all changes follow site MOC requirements with proper risk assessment, testing, and documentation.
  • Deliver A&PC improvements and support capital projects (scope, specs, vendor management, FAT/SAT, commissioning, handover).
  • Maintain and improve site standards (naming conventions, HMI standards) and support training for operations and maintenance teams.
  • Administer and enhance the data historian, ensuring data quality and tag management.
  • Administer Alarm Management Systems.
  • Support cybersecurity hygiene (patching, access controls) in alignment with site/IT requirements.
  • Serve as the Electrical Safety Professional (ESP) and coordinate electrical safety improvements per Qnity EHS Standard S31G.
  • Provide guidance on electrical safety compliance, priorities, and resource needs.
  • Develop and share electrical safety metrics; participate in incident and near-miss investigations.
  • Support projects to ensure electrical systems are designed with hazard-minimizing engineering solutions.
  • Develop, review, and maintain electrical designs for plant modifications and capital projects.
  • Design, modify, and validate machine safety circuits and safety-related control systems (interlocks, Estops, failsafe systems, safety PLCs).
  • Lead electrical risk assessments, isolation plans, and incident investigations.
  • Ensure electrical documentation remains accurate and reflects as-built conditions.
  • Support electrical asset lifecycle management, including obsolescence planning and upgrade strategies.
