About The Position

This is a fully remote independent consulting opportunity for experienced Autodesk Fusion 360 Specialists contributing to an advanced AI training and engineering-data project. The work involves developing, editing, auditing, and documenting robust parametric 3D models from detailed technical requirements, applying manufacturing knowledge and professional CAD standards. Although Autodesk Fusion 360 expertise is sought, the project will primarily use FreeCAD, making transferable parametric-modelling skills and prior FreeCAD experience especially relevant. No prior AI experience is required. Assignments may involve mechanical part creation, assembly modelling, reverse engineering, manufacturing review, CAD automation, and engineering documentation. The project scope, workload, modelling requirements, and quality standards may evolve according to project needs. Work must not use confidential or proprietary information belonging to any employer, client, institution, or other third party. The opportunity is available through 24-MAG LLC, which connects professionals with remote consulting opportunities.

Requirements

  • Strong proficiency with Autodesk Fusion 360 and extensive hands-on experience with parametric CAD platforms.
  • Proven application of GD&T principles in real-world engineering work.
  • Strong Design for Manufacturability expertise across at least 2–3 manufacturing processes.
  • Strong assembly-level modelling experience, not exclusively single-part modelling.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal technical communication.
  • No prior AI-training or model-evaluation experience is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior FreeCAD experience is ideal; experience with SolidWorks, Inventor, or comparable parametric CAD tools is relevant.
  • At least 4 years of applied CAD experience is preferred for model-editing work; approximately 10 or more years of relevant experience may be appropriate for complex model-creation assignments.
  • Experience with injection moulding, sheet metal fabrication, CNC machining, casting, forging, or comparable production methods.
  • Experience with reverse engineering, scan-to-CAD, or point-cloud conversion.
  • Familiarity with CAD automation or scripting using Python, iLogic, NX Open, VBA, or comparable tools.

Responsibilities

  • Develop fully parametric 3D models of mechanical parts and assemblies from written briefs and technical requirements.
  • Use robust sketching, geometric constraints, dimensions, and feature-tree structures while maintaining design intent and model editability, stability, and adaptability.
  • Edit and update existing parametric models as specifications change while preserving model integrity.
  • Diagnose fragile constraints, broken references, and unstable features; refine geometry and maintain organised modelling structures.
  • Apply GD&T principles consistent with ASME Y14.5 or equivalent standards; review dimensional accuracy, tolerances, and design intent.
  • Apply Design for Manufacturability principles and assess manufacturing considerations across relevant processes.
  • Identify geometry or tolerance decisions that may create manufacturing difficulties.
  • Audit models and assemblies for dimensional correctness, feature consistency, and specification compliance; identify gaps or inconsistencies and provide recommendations for correction.
  • Assess whether models reflect intended mechanical relationships and constraints.
  • Support reverse-engineering workflows, including scan-to-CAD and point-cloud conversion, and translate geometry or physical references into structured parametric models.
  • Use automation or scripting to improve repeatability and efficiency, and help standardise modelling and validation workflows.
  • Document modelling decisions, assumptions, and design rationale; explain technical choices in writing and verbally.
  • Provide structured feedback, communicate manufacturing and design considerations to multidisciplinary contributors, and support continuous project improvement.
  • Complete work without using confidential or proprietary third-party information.
