About The Position

The Auto Mechanic performs fleet maintenance for Philadelphia Gas Works, including repairs, adjustments, diagnostics, inspections, and preventive maintenance. The position uses hand and power tools, precision gauges, electrical instruments, and computers, and assists Equipment Mechanics and/or the Working Foreman. The role includes responding to road breakdowns and providing road service as required. It is a full-time union position working in all weather conditions on rotational shifts that include nights, weekends, and holidays. Starting pay is $27.495 per hour ($1,099.80 weekly).

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
At least one year of verifiable on-the-job shop experience.
Current, valid driver's license with a clean record.
Current Pennsylvania State Emission and Inspection licenses.
Ability to acquire a Class A Commercial Driver's License within six months of hire.
Commercial drivers must meet medical standards established by federal and state regulations.
Must pass the company entry-level test.

Nice To Haves

Automotive AAS degree or graduation from a vocational/technical automotive program.
Experience with medium- to heavy-duty trucks, van engines, and diesel engines.

Responsibilities

Remove and install engines, rear ends, transmissions, and clutches; repair and adjust brakes.
Repair or replace wiring, distributors, and generators; repair and align front-end assemblies; replace radiators and springs; and tune up engines.
Mount and dismount tires and tire chains; repair and diagnose ignition systems.
Use hand and power tools, precision gauges, electrical instruments, and computers for equipment updates and email.
Assist the Equipment Mechanic and/or Working Foreman.
Diagnose road breakdowns and make necessary repairs.
Perform road service as required.
Perform state safety and emissions inspections.
Perform preventive maintenance inspections.
Answer calls when necessary.
Perform other related duties and functions as assigned.
