Auto General Service Technician
About The Position
The General Service Technician performs basic automotive services, including mounting and balancing tires, tire repairs, oil changes, and vehicle inspections, while providing an excellent customer experience. The role also involves maintaining clean and safe work areas in the tire and service department and may include advising customers about recommended or required automotive services and repairs. The technician learns to diagnose and repair basic automotive systems and keeps up with changing automotive technology through formal training. The position requires following company policies, procedures, safety standards, and environmental rules.
Requirements
- Valid driver's license.
- Passion for a career as a technician in the automotive industry.
- Eagerness to learn and a competitive drive to succeed.
- At least 18 years of age.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Availability to work days, nights, holidays, and weekends as needed.
- Successful completion of a pre-employment background check.
- Ability to meet the physical demands of the role, including frequent lifting of heavy equipment weighing more than 100 pounds.
Responsibilities
- Learn to diagnose and repair basic automotive systems, including brakes, alignments, suspensions, cooling systems, and electrical systems.
- Participate in formal training to learn new technical information and techniques and keep up with changing automotive technology.
- Change engine oil and filters.
- Install tires and perform tire maintenance.
- Install batteries and check starting and charging systems.
- Install headlights and other small bulbs.
- Repair flat tires.
- Install wiper blades.
- Stock and unload tires.
- Assist fellow technicians and mechanics with technical activities.
- Keep store management informed about mechanical repair problems as they occur.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and neat shop.
- Follow company policies, procedures, safety rules, and environmental rules.
- Provide customers with advice about automotive services and repairs that are recommended or required for their vehicles.
