About The Position

Legal Services of North Florida has an opening for a civil practice Attorney. This attorney will lead our Elder Stability Legal Project, a new initiative providing a broad range of civil legal services to older adults. This position offers the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of older adults through legal advice and representation on matters including estate planning, wills and powers of attorney, public benefits, housing stability, and other elder law issues. The attorney will also expand access to legal services through community education and engagement, legal clinics, and partnerships, while providing training and mentorship to other LSNF staff members to strengthen our program-wide elder law practice. Attorneys at LSNF have the ability to work collaboratively with superior legal professionals in civil litigation and administrative law to strategize and advocate on behalf of clients and seek justice. LSNF legal staff also engage in significant litigation including large scale impact work and appellate work. LSNF carries out community education and outreach with two Justice on the Block mobile response units where individuals can speak to an attorney, apply for our services, or have assistance filing pro se documents.

Requirements

• Member of The Florida Bar in good standing.
• Strong organizational and communication skills.
• Comfortable interacting with clients.
• Desire to advocate.
• Must complete Legal Services of North Florida online employment application and submit a resume.
• Subject to Florida Level 2 background screening requirements.

Responsibilities

• Lead the Elder Stability Legal Project, providing a broad range of civil legal services to older adults.
• Provide legal advice and representation on matters including estate planning, wills and powers of attorney, public benefits, housing stability, and other elder law issues.
• Expand access to legal services through community education and engagement, legal clinics, and partnerships.
• Provide training and mentorship to other LSNF staff members to strengthen the program-wide elder law practice.
• Collaborate with legal professionals in civil litigation and administrative law to strategize and advocate on behalf of clients.
• Engage in significant litigation, including large-scale impact work and appellate work.
• Carry out community education and outreach with mobile response units.
