The General Services Attendant is responsible for safely transporting patients and visitors between the Emergency Department entrance and associated self-parking stalls, and enforcing parking restrictions so that designated spaces are used only by ED patients and visitors. During downtime, the attendant provides additional support for normal business operations. This position serves as one of Mayo Clinic’s first points of contact for patients and visitors. The attendant welcomes and assists patients, visitors, family members, and colleagues with professionalism, empathy, clear communication, and a courteous, respectful, helpful demeanor. Duties include verifying patient appointments, communicating with practice colleagues to gather appointment details, following screening scripts and processes, understanding and enforcing visitor policies and entrance requirements such as masking and badging, greeting visitors, and providing navigation assistance. The attendant primarily works in patient-designated buildings to enforce policies and monitor patient and visitor flow. The role also includes remaining composed in stressful situations and de-escalating conflict. It may involve view-only access to electronic health records to verify information; wheelchair and stretcher transportation; providing directions; delivering specimens; and making special pickups and deliveries for internal departments and off-site facilities. Attendants may drive Mayo Clinic vehicles for courier runs to the Hospital, regional practices, and Records warehouse, and provide employee shuttle transportation between the Hospital, Clinic, and regional practices. Work hours vary and may include days, evenings, holidays, and weekends, with rotating days off.
