About The Position

Jesuit High School seeks a dynamic and mission-driven leader to serve as Director of Athletics, charged with guiding and monitoring an athletic department designed to promote Ignatian values as articulated in the Profile of the Graduate at Graduation. The Director of Athletics will engage student-athletes fully in mind, body, and spirit by shaping a clear, collective purpose for the athletic program that fosters a highly competitive athletic culture grounded in character, integrity, and excellence. The Director will cultivate an environment in which student-athletes, coaches, and parents work together in a spirit of sportsmanship-one that allows Ignatian values to be revealed, tested, and proven relevant through rigorous competition and lifelong formation as men for others. This salaried, exempt position works as a 12-month employee reporting to the Principal. Application Deadline: Friday, March 20. It is located in Mid-City New Orleans on Carrollton Avenue between Palmyra and Banks Streets. The mission of Jesuit High School as a Catholic, college preparatory school is to develop in its students the competence, conscience, and compassion that will enable them to be men of faith and men for others.

Requirements

  • Appreciation and support for Catholic and Jesuit religious ethos

  • A minimum of five years experience in an educational or athletic setting, including demonstrated success as a coach, administrator, or program leader at the secondary or collegiate level
  • Availability for regular night or weekend events, including holidays
  • High work ethic and commitment to timeliness in all school-related commitments

Responsibilities

  • Provide visionary leadership and oversight of the athletic department, ensuring alignment with the mission of Jesuit education and the formation of student-athletes in mind, body, and spirit as men of faith and men for others.
  • Promote and sustain a values-based athletic culture that emphasizes sportsmanship, integrity, accountability, and the pursuit of excellence.
  • Oversee the scheduling and coordination of athletic programs, competitions, and events in a manner that balances competitive excellence with academic priorities and student well-being.
  • Manage and steward athletic facilities and equipment responsibly, recognizing them as shared resources that support community, teamwork, and safe participation.
  • Develop, manage, and monitor the athletic department budget and team budgets with transparency, prudence, and fiscal responsibility, consistent with Catholic stewardship principles.
  • Coordinate special athletic events, recognitions, and awards that celebrate achievement, perseverance, teamwork, and character, giving glory to God through shared success.
  • Supervise, evaluate, mentor, and support coaches and athletic staff, calling them to serve as educators and role models who form young men of character, discipline, and faith.
  • Encourage and support ongoing professional development for coaches and staff, fostering growth in leadership, pedagogy, faith formation, and competitive excellence.
  • Ensure full compliance with all school and state rules and regulations, modeling ethical leadership and responsibility in all athletic operations.
  • Implement comprehensive safety protocols, including the management of athletic training staff, to ensure the health and injury prevention of all student‑athletes across school sports programs.
  • Serve as a unifying liaison among athletics, school administration, faculty, parents, alumni, and the broader community, fostering collaboration rooted in mutual respect, shared purpose, and cura personalis .
  • Maintain accurate and thorough athletic records, including rosters, eligibility, schedules, and results, ensuring integrity and accountability in all reporting.
  • Represent the school with professionalism and pride at league, district, state, and professional athletic meetings, serving as an ambassador of Jesuit values and tradition.
  • Assist with public relations and communication efforts that positively promote athletic programs while reflecting the school's mission, values, and commitment to formation through sport.
  • Communicate regularly with parents and families, partnering with them in the formation of student-athletes and supporting a healthy, respectful, and mission-centered athletic community.
  • Collaborate closely with school leadership, counselors, and faculty to support the academic success personal growth, and well-being of all student-athletes.
