About The Position

This is a Full-time, Remote Pilot Operator (RPO) position within the SAIC Controller Training Solutions (CTS) team at the Atlanta Regional Office, located in College Park, GA. The role supports air traffic controller Tower Initial Qualification training for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The RPO simulates the actions and communication of pilots and remote ATC facilities in an air traffic control training simulator. This involves operating a simulated radar display and voice communication system, receiving voice commands from students, inputting simulated pilot actions into the automated system, translating displayed information into appropriate ATC terminology, and responding to students using proper phraseology. The candidate will be required to obtain certifications including passing a test on airspace and procedures, and performing as a Remote Pilot Operator on all positions in a lab environment. The FAA relies on a well-trained Air Traffic Control (ATC) workforce to ensure safety and professionalism for the flying public, managing over 50,000 aircraft daily in the National Airspace System. SAIC provides contractor-provided instructional services to meet the FAA's training needs for new and recurrent training at various ATC facilities across the U.S. and its Territories, covering all types and levels of ATC facilities.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a high school diploma (or equivalent).
  • Demonstrate basic computer proficiency.
  • Ability to read and interpret materials such as diagrams and manuals.
  • Ability to speak clearly and be understood.
  • US Citizenship is required.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in a multidisciplinary team (Multimedia Developers, Quality Assurance, Instructions System Designers, Subject Matter Experts, Instructors).
  • Experience and certification in ATC Tower, TRACON or En Route simulation lab is strongly desired, but not required.
  • Effective oral and written communications skills.
  • Working knowledge of the FAAO JO 7110.65 is strongly desired, but not required.
  • Effective team building skills.
  • MS Office Suite Proficiency (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.).
  • Basic familiarization of current technologic tools (tablets, notebooks, applications, etc.).
  • Basic familiarization or experience with pilot/controller communications or phraseology.

Responsibilities

  • Operate a simulated radar display and voice communication system to simulate pilot actions and communication from remote ATC facilities during training exercises.
  • Receive voice commands from students.
  • Input proper entries into the automated system to simulate pilot actions.
  • Translate displayed information into appropriate ATC terminology.
  • Respond to students via the voice communication system utilizing proper phraseology.
  • Complete required certifications: Classroom (pass test on airspace and procedures) and Lab (perform as a Remote Pilot Operator on all positions).
