About The Position

SAIC is seeking Full-time, Remote Pilot Operator (RPO) candidates to join the Controller Training Solutions (CTS) team at the Regional Training Site in Elgin, IL, supporting air traffic controller training services for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The RPO simulates the actions and communication of pilots and remote ATC facilities in an Air Traffic Controller training simulator. This role involves operating a simulated radar display and voice communication system, receiving voice commands from students, inputting entries into the automated system to simulate pilot actions, translating displayed information into appropriate ATC terminology, and responding to students via the VCS using proper phraseology. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is responsible for ensuring air traffic control specialists provide a high level of safety and professionalism to the flying public. A well-trained Air Traffic Control (ATC) workforce is essential for this responsibility, with the FAA employing over 14,000 air traffic controllers who safely separate more than 50,000 aircraft daily in the National Airspace System (NAS). The FAA trains new and recurrent air traffic control specialists, utilizing contractor-provided instructional services at FAA ATC facilities across the U.S. and its Territories to meet these training needs. SAIC provides training and training-related support services for all types and levels of ATC facilities.

Requirements

• Must be able to complete Classrom certification (pass test on airspace and procedures).
• Must be able to complete Lab certification (perform as a Remote Pilot Operator on all positions).

Responsibilities

• Operate a combination of a simulated radar display and voice communication system to simulate the actions and communication of pilots and remote ATC facilities during medium and high-fidelity training exercises.
• Receive voice commands from students.
• Input proper entries into the automated system to simulate pilot actions.
• Translate displayed information into appropriate ATC terminology.
• Respond to the student via the VCS utilizing proper phraseology.
• Complete required certifications: Classroom (pass test on airspace and procedures) and Lab (perform as a Remote Pilot Operator on all positions).
