About The Position

The University of Saint Mary (USM) is seeking an Associate VP for Academic Assessment and Student Success. This position oversees and provides leadership and coordination of university assessment activities for annual academic assessment, program reviews, external accreditation processes, and general education. It also oversees and provides leadership and coordination for activities related to Student Success. This is a 12-month appointment reporting to the Provost/Vice President for Academic Affairs and collaborates frequently with Program Directors, Division Chairs, Assessment Committee, Institutional Research, and University directors and supervisors. This position will also assist the Provost/Vice President for Academics in matters related to programs and initiatives in support of the university strategic plan.

Requirements

  • Doctorate degree required.
  • Direct experience with national, regional or specialized accreditation required.
  • Higher Learning Commission experience in particular is preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years supervisory experience in higher education, preferred.
  • Knowledge, skills, abilities and experience in classroom and curriculum at the university level.
  • Project management and problem-solving skills with the ability to use computer information systems for data collection, reporting and analysis.
  • Skill in examining and evaluating operations and procedures, formulating policy, and developing and implementing new strategies and procedures.
  • Experience with budget management, professional development, and employee supervision and evaluation.
  • Ability to create, compose, and edit written materials.
  • Ability to foster a cooperative work environment.
  • Outstanding interpersonal and community relations skills and the ability to communicate and work effectively within a diverse community.
  • Knowledge of the role of assessment for enhancing student learning.
  • Commitment to the philosophy and mission of the University of Saint Mary.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as an appointed member of the Assessment Committee.
  • Meet periodically with personnel to facilitate improvement of academic, co-curricular, and non-academic assessment, and to monitor assessment implementation and effectiveness.
  • Support and facilitate assessment efforts of faculty completing academic assessment annual reports and projects.
  • Prepare an Annual Institutional Assessment report communicating departmental, co-curricular, program and university learning outcomes.
  • Assist Provost with the coordination and review of the five-year program review process.
  • Ensure compliance with accreditation standards and that institutional goals and objectives are incorporated into the planning and evaluation process of the University and academic units.
  • Assist in the development of reporting templates for academic, non-academic, and co-curricular assessment.
  • Assist the Assessment Committee in analyzing academic assessment data, writing assessment reports, and submitting appropriate evidence and documentation for institutional and HLC requirements.
  • Provide assistance to faculty and staff with assessment reporting functions.
  • Assist with preparing HLC self-study documents as well as specialized accreditation needs on an individual basis.
  • Supervises faculty appointed Student Success Coaches, Student Success Coordinator, ADA Specialist, Graduate Assistants, and work study students and coordinates student interventions throughout the semester.
  • Responsible for direct communication and collaboration with faculty, Division Chairs, and Student Life regarding student success initiative planning and implementation.
  • Responsible for evaluation of student success services and initiatives, including gathering data, maintaining records, preparing and presenting evaluation reports, and disseminating information.
  • Develops reliable reporting metrics for use in analyzing academic readiness, persistence, and retention strategies' success across multiple student groups.
  • Responsible for the implementation of initiatives and interventions for students admitted to USM conditionally or placed on probation to create individualized success plans and monitors students’ plan progress and facilitates interventions for academic success.
  • Leads efforts to monitor grade and attendance reports; in collaboration with Student Success Coaches and Student Success Coordinator determines appropriate intervention activities for all students considered at risk throughout academic semesters (high missed attendance and/or low academic performance issues; at all campus locations, on-ground and online).
  • Develops and coordinates academic success programs and workshops for academically at-risk and underprepared students.
  • Utilizes research on learning and cognition, sleep, time management, and study strategies to assist students in maximizing their academic performance.
  • Leads regular in-person meetings with Student Success team, requiring a high degree of collaboration, communication, and teamwork.
  • Manages tutoring services through peer tutoring program, organized study groups, and tutor.com online resource; Supervises work study student tutors.
  • Manages First-Generation Scholars programming and implementation.
  • Supports Career Readiness and Career Preparation resources in collaboration with Academic Divisions.
  • Serves as the Institutional Administrator for the Accuplacer placement exam, Tutor.com, Grammarly, LinkedIn Learning, and LinkedIn Talent Insights.
  • Develops and monitors budget execution; provides staff with information regarding budgetary decisions, planning, and implementation.
  • Oversees faculty ADA Specialist; ensuring accommodations and appropriate support for students and supporting coordination between faculty ADA Specialist and USM community.
  • Assists with planning and logistics of New Student Orientation academic events.
  • Attendance at New Student Registration, Visit Days, Net Student Orientation and other related events and activities.
  • Coordinate and/or complete summer trainings as requested.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
