About The Position

The Office of Student Services within Washington State University's College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences (CPPS) is seeking an Academic and Student Success Advisor 1 or 2 to join our team. The Office of Student Services in the College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences (CPPS) is an energetic and highly fast-paced environment where we rely heavily on current technologies to meet the demands of the Doctor of Pharmacy students and our stakeholders. As the Academic and Student Success advisor, you will serve as a member of the advising team, providing quality advising to professional students from the College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. You will provide career, academic, and success advising that fulfills the professional student curriculum and ACPE standards. In this position, you will also collaborate with the Director of Recruitment to support the transition of PharmD applicants to admitted students. This position will manage a caseload of 150+ students. This position may require occasional travel to local, regional, and national locations for student services training and support.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and two (2) years’ experience working with students in an educational setting or related experience (for Advisor 1).
  • Bachelor’s degree and three (3) years academic advising or related experience (for Advisor 2).
  • A Master’s degree in a related field may substitute for one (1) year of professional work experience.
  • Any combination of relevant education and professional experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year‐for‐year basis.
  • Positions who will lead or supervisor will require one or more years of full-time experience leading or directing the work of others.
  • Knowledge of advising and counseling techniques, with the ability to build trust and provide safe, supportive opportunities for students, from varied backgrounds, including, but not limited to, underrepresented, first generation, and/or high needs, to identify and pursue paths to graduation that support their educational goals and post-graduation plans.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively and respectfully interact with students, faculty, and staff of diverse social, cultural, economic, and educational backgrounds, and an understanding of the institutional barriers and equity gaps faced by historically under-served student populations in higher education.
  • Experience providing academic and career advising, success coaching, and/or case management in a higher education setting.
  • Demonstrated computer software skills, including the ability to use office software, such as databases, spreadsheets, word processing, and Outlook.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated ability to remain professional, courteous, and interact effectively with diverse populations in a positive manner that engenders confidence and trust.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and independently.
  • Ability and willingness to occasionally travel, work weekends, and work after regular business hours.
  • Experience in program development.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize job tasks effectively and multitasks to meet deadlines.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in higher education, student affairs, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn new technology and software applications.
  • Working knowledge of learning styles, as well as academic success, career development and retention strategies.
  • Experience using student records databases/programs for higher education institutions.
  • Strong public speaking skills.
  • Previous work experience at an institution of higher education.
  • Previous work experience with a Doctor of Pharmacy or Health Sciences related program.
  • Demonstrated experience working with individuals from diverse cultural and economic backgrounds.
  • Familiarity with Washington State University academic rules and regulations.
