Consumers Energy is Michigan’s largest energy provider, serving 6.8 million residents across 68 Lower Peninsula counties. This hybrid (virtual/onsite) position is based in Jackson, MI, with required onsite days on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. The Associate System Protection Engineer will support the design, analysis, and protection of voltage power systems. The role involves aiding the implementation of protection schemes for transmission and distribution systems by completing tasks delegated by senior engineers, and assisting in the development of control philosophies and sequences for generation, transmission, and distribution systems. The Transmission and High Voltage Distribution (T&HVD) System Protection team is responsible for the protection of Consumers Energy’s 46 and 138 kV electric systems, ensuring optimal system performance through expert configuration of protection schemes and equipment. This team supports T&HVD projects from conception through operation and maintenance, acting as subject matter experts for equipment evaluations, device applications, modeling, fault analysis, short-circuit calculations, NERC standards compliance, and more.
