Our work covers most commercial building types, including multi-family, office, retail, industrial, mixed use, and hotel/hospitality. We are currently accepting applications for an Structural Engineer at an Associate level to join our team in Southern California (Huntington Beach or Pasadena). Our expected starting annual salary range is $120,000 -$135,000, plus discretionary bonuses. This role is on a hybrid schedule with 2 days in the office each week, local and regional travel to sites as needed, and work from home.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in civil/structural engineering
  • Licensed as a professional engineer (PE) in the state of California
  • Minimum five (5) years of industry-related experience at a structural engineering consulting firm
  • Technical level of understanding of building types and lateral load-resisting systems
  • Understanding of hazardous structural features and site seismic hazards
  • Adequate understanding of building materials, construction processes and methods
  • Ability to perform services of the organization independently and with limited supervision
  • Ability to work under deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Demonstrated leadership and project management successes
  • Ability to communicate in a professional manner, remain organized, and multitask
  • Decision-making and problem-solving experience in a technical role
  • Proficiency in Bluebeam, Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel
  • Current knowledge of building codes including CBC, ASCE-7, ACI, and AISC

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in structural/seismic engineering
  • Licensed as a professional engineer (PE) in other states or ability to obtain the license in other states
  • Licensed as Structural Engineer (SE) in the state of California
  • Current knowledge of ASTM E2557, ASTM E2026, ASCE-41, and FEMA P-154
  • Proficiency in RISA-3D, Enercalc, and other structural analysis software
  • Familiarity with Quire, Plan Grid, BOX, AutoCAD, and Revit
  • Experience with structural repair and seismic retrofit design

Responsibilities

  • Act as technical team member and small project lead for our clients' commercial structures. Our work covers most commercial building types, including multifamily, office, retail, industrial, and hotel/hospitality.
  • Collaborate with clients, internal team, consultants, and site contact, and be responsible for overall understanding of the client's project(s)
  • Review and assess existing building construction and condition
  • Review and analyze construction documents including structural calculations, drawings, and specifications
  • Perform seismic risk and property condition assessments
  • Prepare and present detailed formal reports
  • Perform structural analysis and create details for small-scale structural repairs and seismic retrofit projects
  • Assist with forensic structural investigations by analysis of defects, failure, and collapse, investigate causation, timing, damage assessment, repairability, and code compliance
