About The Position

Sanford Health, the largest rural health system in the United States, is dedicated to transforming the health care experience and providing access to world-class health care in America’s heartland. We're looking for someone with great customer service skills to take calls and process and deliver patient health information requests quickly and courteously. Strong attention to detail and the ability to uphold strict HIPAA confidentiality at all times is required. Experience in healthcare or with medical terminology is a plus. This position is 32 hours a week working Monday through Friday 11:30am-6:00pm central time. Pay starts at $16.00 with additional credit given for work experience relative to this role.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Must have 2 years of customer service experience either working with customers both in person and via phone required.
  • Ability to type a minimum of 35 words per minute.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate's degree in Health Information Technology or other healthcare field preferred.
  • Experience in healthcare or with medical terminology is a plus.
  • Healthcare experience is preferred.
  • Prior work experience in health information management (HIM) Department related to record maintenance completion or release of information preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Interact with customers by phone or in person, providing prompt and courteous service in a fast-paced, high call volume, customer focused environment.
  • Professionally handle requests and inquiries for patient health information submitted by mail, fax, phone, and/or in-person.
  • Identify and assess customer needs, verify understanding of requests, and follow through as promised.
  • Process requests in a timely and efficient manner within established timeline standards, maintaining quality and accuracy.
  • Ensure any issues that arise are resolved promptly, thoroughly, and courteously.
  • Provide excellent customer service by being attentive, respectful and professional at all times.
  • Safeguard and protect the patient's right to privacy by ensuring that only authorized individuals have access to the patient's medical information.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of patient information in compliance with HIPAA and state and federal regulations.
  • Able to interact effectively and demonstrate strong communication skills when dealing with all customers, including physicians, peers, patients, and external customers.
  • Work comfortably with frequent interruptions.
  • Able to multitask and handle multiple priorities.
  • Work with a high level of accuracy.
  • Escalate issues to supervisor for resolution as deemed necessary.
  • Contribute to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adhere to department policies, procedures, and quality standards.
  • May perform other duties as assigned to support business needs.
