The Release of Information Specialist must at all times safeguard and protect the patient’s rights to privacy by ensuring that only authorized individuals have access to the patient’s medical information. This role ensures the authenticity of patient signatures prior to releasing information and is responsible for compliance with all requests, authorizations, established policies, procedures, and HIPAA statutes. The position requires a thorough working knowledge for retrieving documents from various systems including Meditech, Chartmaxx, Papervision, microfiche, and paper charts. A commitment to maintaining a professional healthcare office environment, handling confidential and personal health information conscientiously, and providing superior service to patients and other requestors is essential. This role involves direct patient and customer service, requiring interpersonal skills that project a positive image of the department and the DCH Healthcare System. The specialist must also collaborate effectively with team leaders, supervisors, managers, and other department members to foster a harmonious work environment.
